definitely worth a visit, free entrance and it is just one of those places you need to tick off in life, lots of places for a snack local also and a vatican post office in the square that a lot of people send postcards back to themselves from.

To be standing here and think about the significance and importance. Large and crowded. Spectacular surroundings when you are in the square.

Lovely square we visited on New Year's Day to get the Pope's NY blessing. The tree and nativity scene in the square were just beautiful. Large crowds, but it is always this way and not just of NYD. Heavy security to get in for which we were thankful for.

I've always wanted to visit St. Peter's....and NOW I have. It is such an immense space. Got a good cardio workout making a lap around it. Great place to clear one's mind after touring the Vatican Museum.

Photos are allowed but be wary of the people who will try to sell you everything and anything before entering the square eg selfie equipment and other things not worthy of a dollar or a euro. This square is huge and from any angle it's a moment for reflection and holding one's breath, being thrust back into ancient times and... More

This place is truly amazing! You see people from all over the world on pilgrimage or just regular tourists checking out the sights. We went on NYE and New Years Day and, while crowded, the crowds die down in the evening and you can get some AMAZING photos. If you want to go into the Basilica, get there about 10... More

It is a nice large square, with stunning views of the Basilica and surrounds, spend some time just walking around. You can see some Swiss Guards to the left of the Basilica and you can pop into the Vatican Post Office which is rather interesting.

Totally beautiful place. I am not a religious person but I was amazed by the beauty of St Peter's Square. Such a peaceful place and a must see when visiting Rome. So much history and wonderful architecture.
