About
Our stable is located in the heart of Ancient Rome, on the Appian Way and we are the only one allowed to organize horseback ride along the Queen of Road! You can reach our stable with a 20mins taxi from the Colosseum or also with public transport. If you love horses, nature and history, a walk on horseback along the spectacular Appian Way and surrounding Park will be an experience you will never forget. With expert guides and horsemen, Sandro Bernardini and Andrea, you will see archeological treasures, some of which would be difficult to reach except on horseback. Sandro’s family has been in the area for over a century and he is a knowledgable guide, well versed in history as well as local lore. With 20 years of experience in equestrian tourism, we have created itineraries for all tastes and levels of riding experience (including none!)

Gentle horse ride on ancient Appian Way
The staff were very accommodating with arranging the ride. The horses were very calm and gentle and obviously well cared for. This isn't a tour per se - the guides didn't tell us about the history of the road or what we were passing. But it was a lovely way to spend a couple hours in a very historical part of Rome. If you like horses, you will enjoy!

    Gold stars!!
We visited many places while in Rome and this was the top favorite! The family farm is beautiful and the family that lives there is very warm and inviting. The horse ride was amazing and our guide was great at explaining the history of the area. We booked lunch after the horseback riding and it was one of our favorite meals in Rome! The food was homemade and better than the meals we had at the restaurants. If you are visiting Rome this is a must do!

Riding on a horse! All roads lead to Rome! YES!
As the saying goes, "All roads lead to Rome." One of the most famous of these roads is the Appian Way. Having previously visited Rome, my teammate and I wanted to try something different this time. I searched online for recommended attractions in Rome and came across the option of horseback riding on the Appian Way, which sounded intriguing. After conducting further research, I found a service called Riding Ancient Rome on Trip Advisor, which offers horse riding experiences on the Appian Way. To ensure our plans were in order, I contacted the owner via email approximately three weeks in advance to confirm the details and payment method. Considering our limited riding experience, we opted for a 1-hour ride followed by a meal service for two adults. The total cost for two people was 195 euros, including tax. The stable is located on the outskirts of Rome and can be reached by subway and bus. I recommend taking the public transportation as it is convenient. Unfortunately, we took a taxi and encountered difficulties in finding one, which almost caused us to be late for our appointment. However, we discovered the bus to be a much more convenient mode of transportation when we returned. Upon arrival, we were assigned staff members from the stable who assisted us throughout the riding process, as we were new to horseback riding. Riding on a horse made me (155cm) feel quite tall, hahahahaha. Along the way, we encountered well-preserved ruins and received informative explanations. The staff even shared some interesting gossip about the new building next to the Appian Way, which is rumored to have been purchased by the owner of an Italian supermarket chain. For lunch, we were treated to a homemade meal prepared by Irma, the kind sister of the stable owner. The pasta she made was possibly the best I've ever had in Rome. Its delicious taste and obvious handcrafted quality made it a standout. However, the true culinary highlight was the baked potatoes. They were, without a doubt, the most delicious food I have ever tasted! I was not particularly fond of rosemary, but its addition to the baked potatoes was just perfect. I would highly recommend visiting for the lunch alone.

Had an amazing day and dinner
We went in october and did a tour of 1 hour with a archeologist and food after. The place feels like you're outside Rome, while being quite close to the center. It was amazing, the people are lovely, the owner rode at the front and the archeologist at the back or next to us. Very interisting history about the romans. He also gave us some really good tips on what to visit for food/views/drinks. When we came back the table was set outside for us to eat with a lovely cat as audience. The food was amazing and our stomachs were so full at the end. The waiter brought us home to our b&b when no taxi could pick us up. 10/10 would do it again

    Fabulous Riding experience. Fabulous lunch!
We booked the beginners 1 hr ride, as I have never ridden before although my partner had. Having read some reviews we chose this ride with lunch. We were not disappointed in anyway. The horses were clearly very well cared for, and although older in years were fit. The age and experience of the horse ( in my case, Zorro) was well suited to my lack of riding knowledge, Zorro did what he should. However I was given a crash course in horse control, which did give me a little more confidence even though I didn’t need to call on this new found skill!! The ride, as I’m informed by my more experienced partner, was a gentle Hack along the ancient Roman road. Our guide, Sandro, whose farm it was, made the ride incredibly interesting. He pointed out some great history and local information. I loved the experience and it’s made me want to ride again. We were then introduced to Sandro’s sister who took us into a rustic building with a lovely log fire burning. We were treated to a four course meal with wine and coffee. The first course, bruschetta with pumpkin and mushroom was delicious. Second course, the best pasta and sauce we had in Rome! Followed by the best roasted potatoes I have ever tasted, with chicken and orange. Then sweet and coffee. We weren’t rushed and Sandros sister was a lovely cook and a lovely lady. Overall this was an experience I absolutely loved and would, without hesitation ,do again!

Memorable family outing on the Appian way
We had a great time. My wife and I with our two children ages 16 and 11 took the one hour ride down the Appian way. It was a terrific experience which we all enjoyed very much. We had lunch afterwards in the main house. Rustic and terrific food. It really provided an all around memorable experience, and we would recommend it without hesitation.

See a different part of Rome from horseback
We booked this tour since we enjoy horses and we ride western at home (own our horses and show competitively AQHA) and thought it would be a fun way to see a different part of Rome from horseback. I had not ridden English in many years and this was a first time for my husband to ride English. Sandro led us on a 90 minute ride. We enjoyed the history and brief stops along the Appian way. Since we ride ‘advanced’, Sandro took us through the countryside. My mare was a little exuberant at the canter, felt a little fresh and gave a crow hop and buck, but my husbands horses was very good. All was well and I enjoyed riding my mare at a trot (ha!). I will note all the horses at the stable were well cared for and we enjoyed watching the Saturday morning lessons before our ride began. Lunch was good, chicken very tender, potatoes great and tiramisu the best I’ve ever had. We were seated in the corner of a large room and their was a large birthday party of about 30 people in the same room so it was very loud and hard to enjoy our lunch together. Overall, a good experience with a few minor ‘hiccups’.

Will Visit Again, Appian way Horse Riding!
We booked our horse riding tour a week before we went to Rome. My kid and his friend were very interested and excited about this coming experience. But quite unfortunately, it rained heavily on the tour day. We have to put off the tour. The email communication was efficient and helpful. The lady offered us a refund of the booking fee. We appreciated her understanding. We visited the stable before we left Italy. It is a lovely place, welcoming and beautiful. Local kids also have horse riding classes there during the weekend. Believe me, that is a wonderful place to go. Remember to book in advance.

    Perfect Rome
Absolutely beautiful morning on the Appia way via horseback. I booked for an early morning start before 8 am… quiet, beautiful spring day. Sandro was a welcoming, humorous, engaging host who shared stories and insights into this glorious quarter of Rome—an oasis of calm in the city. Excellent horses, tack and barn. Absolutely made my visit to Rome!

Loved the horse, the people and the scenery
I got to ride the well behaved Zoro, who was a little bothered by flies, but didn’t mind cars, bicycles, people and cats. Sandro led us along the Appian Way in the largest park of Italy. He told me about different features. We saw a house where Sophia Loren lived, ancient structures, and more. It was just the one hour ride I hoped to have. After the ride Sandro introduced me to his sister so she could help me get a taxi back to my hotel. They had me sit in the shade with their mother in front of her little home until it came. I also want to mention the kind woman who showed me where to wait when I got there early and it wasn’t clear to me where I should be to go on the ride I reserved.

An hour well spent with wife and two daughters. Lovely well-groomed horses able to walk and trot confidently along via Appia Antica (especially useful for a relative novice). Girls able to trot and canter in a field nearby. Everyone happy.
Great service, response to messages (WhatsApp works well) meant we were able to shift our time slot to a later time on a very warm day.
We took a taxi from Piazza della Repubblica (and the driver waited and took us back - €70) but we were given plenty of options for bus etc.
We got the sense that it was a family business that meant a great deal to them all.
Thoroughly recommend.

This was an absolutely fantastic tour. First of all, the tour is really authentic. The gentleman and his family has more than 100 years of living in their farm. They look after their horses so well. The horses are beautiful, well trained and so easy to control.
We did one hour sunset ride and wow, that was amazing. We rode the ancient Roman road “Appia”, still made of the basalt rock from Roman times, and the scenery was exceptional. The road is full of ancient monument, history of which the guide knows and explains so well along the way. You can also see Mount Vesuvius from distance. The road is full of natural beauty, with relaxing tweets from the birds along the way.
The hosts are brilliant, they are very welcoming and treat you like their family. Unfortunately we didn’t book the tour of having local meal with them, which we will do next time, but they have a farm where everything is organic, and you can enjoy home made food with them after the ride.
The price of the tour was very affordable and is fantastic value for money. We highly recommend this, and will certainly be back to do this again, with meal with family next time.

Lorella gave me a wonderful ride on the sweet mare Valentina! Learning about the Appian Way and all of the history surrounding the area was the cherry on top of a great horseback ride.

I highly recommend taking this ride whether you're an experienced equestrian or just someone looking to experience oldest road in the world on horseback. ❤️

What a fantastic experience.

We were first time riders and Sandro was a great guide; the horses were so peaceful and charming throughout the whole ride.

The opportunity to ride on horseback through the Appian way is one in a life time opportunity, even more for history aficionados

The food was also exquisite and plenty! Perfect pace for the 4 dishes. Again a unique experience to ride through Via Appia and having a delightful lunch right after

I had a wonderful time! It was beautiful riding down the Appian way and learning about the different mausoleums and tombs along the way. Going off the roads and through the farms where we could trot, canter, and do a quick gallop up a hill was so much fun! I love being out in the open fields. Rock was a lovely horse, he was responsive and had a smooth trot and canter. I felt completely safe throughout the ride. My husband joined me for lunch last minute. The food was delicious! I loved the bruschetta, pasta, and eggplant. Please thank everyone for me. I would definitely recommend experiencing such a historic route on horseback!
