Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Done the Vatican and Colosseum? Tired or Baroque and Roccoco? Love Art Nouveau? Then this is the place for you!
I combined a tour of this house with a visit to the amazing Quartiere Coppede, which is about a 10-minute walk away. I see that others have combined it with a visit to the Borghese Gallery. So, the location is a bit off the beaten path, but there's definitely enough to do in the neighborhood.
I think everyone has already used all the adjectives I would use: charming. exquisite. amazing. Particularly if you like this time period, and especially if you are fond of stained glass. This fairy-tale like house is in the middle of a park with other buildings (one of which used to belong to Mussolini). You buy your ticket for this house at another building in the park, not at the house itself.
I mentioned to several Romans that I was visiting the Civette House and every one of them had the same reaction, 'how wonderful! that place is absolutely gorgeous! 'Bellissima!') Nonetheless, you will probably have the house to yourself, and the park will only be full of Italian schoolkids. A great relief from the Vatican/Colosseum crowds.
After this visit, I had lunch at Buca Vino, a few minutes' walk away on Via Po, 45. Highly recommended, and a great value.

I personally wasn't into all the sights of Rome but this museum/ deco house was an absolute hidden gem!
Stained glass windows are gorgeous and there are so many hidden details in every nook and cranny.
I spent far too long here just taking it all in and photographing every tiny detail! It's actually fun taking time to look about as you always see something you've previously missed.
We were virtually alone also and was so peaceful. You must add this to your holiday agenda as it's so different! Can't recommend this magical place enough!

This is a charming and exquisite little house on the grounds of the Villa Torlonia. Every room has liberty style / art nouveau stained glass windows, and the floors match each room's theme (such cyclamens or clovers). Signage is in English and Italian and is very informative. The house takes about 20-45 minutes depending on how many pictures you take. Kids will love the Harry Potter feel of the house. There are public bathrooms right next to the house, and there are plenty of areas for picnicking on the villa's grounds.
It's not exactly near the city center (about a 10 euro cab ride away), but this is a nice counterpoint to all the baroque architecture in Rome. The house is marvelous, and the grounds of the villa Torlonia are lovely and full of 19th century follies.
Tickets were 6 euros and purchased in the main bookstore of the villa, not at the casina itself.

Great to see this house that would fit well in a fairytale movie or team park. Beautifully restored lead-inset windows. A guide is worth to take along you.
And take your time to enjoy the park as well!

Beautiful deco, nice park without too many tourists. The perfect visit in the afternoon or week-end when most of the museums are closed.

What a curious and interesting home – supposedly built for its strange owner, Giovanni Torlonia. The original name of the house was “The Swiss Hut.” The house is a mix of medieval themes and art nouveau craziness that should not be missed. We found this home fascinating especially the magnificent stained glass windows throughout the home depicting birds, flowers, plants and owls (from which the house gets its current name).

This extraordinary little museum is fascinating with its collection of stained glass in the style of Louis Comfort Tiffany. There are wonderful examples of stained glass patterns and shapes inside the house and it's architecture on the outside is not less charming. If you are a lover of Art Nouveau and Louis Comfort Tiffany, you will find yourself in heaven! It is also situated in the beautiful Vila Torlonia park, where you can take a stroll if the weather is nice. I highly recommend it for tourists who are tired of the crowds and queues in the historical centre of Rome. Access is easy if you take the tram.

If Art Nouveau is your thing, and you are in Rome, this is definitely a must. The house of the Owls is a quirky little building in the grounds of Villa Torlonia in North East Rome, well out of the hustling crowds and tourist hot spots but easy to reach by public transport. We spent a lovely two hours lost in the magic of one man's passion and talent. This is a glorious little house highly decorated in the Art Nouveau style of swirling tendrils, delicate flowers and ornate touches in woodwork. Exquisite stained glass windows, painted ceilings, carved furniture, balconies, alcoves, galleries are a visual feast. It was a wet Thursday morning when we arrived. We shared our wanderings with two friends and one other couple. Photography is allowed which is a bonus.
