Neighbourhood: Aventine
Contrary to the chaos of the city, the Aventine is Rome’s oasis. A neighbourhood made up of a patchwork of ancient churches, hidden gardens, private homes and embassies, peace and quiet is top priority and the vibe definitely friends and family. Take a walk around the Aventine and you’ll find a treasure hunt of surprises like the clever little keyhole at the Knights of Malta entrance (the only place you’ll find a line) along with Parco Savello (Giardino degli Aranci) next to the ancient Santa Sabina church. Keep your eyes on the 1960s architecture, several modern buildings are built atop Rome’s original 4th century BC wall.

The structure is one of the oldest in Rome, dating from the 2nd century B.C. Hercules was the protector of oil producers. Expensive pentelic marble was used, showing the power of the equestrian class. It is near the Temple of Portunus.

Temple of Hercules Victor is dedicated to the guardian of the olive and oil traders. The temple was built around 140-120 B.C.E. and is so-called round peripteros with a diameter of 17 m, on a low podium, surrounded by 20 Corinthian columns , supporting the dome destroyed in the Middle Ages. It resembles the temple of Vesta at the Roman Forum. The initiative to build the temple is attributed to Scipio Aemilianus and Lucius Mummius. Inside the temple there was a pedestal with a statue of a deity. In the Middle Ages it was converted into a church. Really very beautiful, both the temple and the entire area. Definitely worth visiting.

There are a couple of interesting ancient temples to see at Piazza della Bocca della Verita on the east side of the Tiber including the Temple of Hercules Victor, a round Greek peripteral style temple built during the 2nd century B.C. It is surrounded and supported by 20 Corinthian style columns nearly 10 metres in height. It seems 19 are original while the tin roofing was added much later. It is well worth a look-see when passing through on your way to Trastevere or if sightseeing nearby.

The Temple of Hercules Victor is a beautiful, ancient round temple in the Forum Boarium. Nearby is the Temple of Portunus, the Arch of Janus. and the churches of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and San Giorgio in Velabro. An area well worth seeing.

The oldest structure in Rome- made with Roman pillars. The oldest building standing in Rome, dates back to the second century BC and today represents the oldest building in Rome still standing.

There were hardly any tourist here, the fountain was also dry. This needs better attention.

This area including not just this temple but the Temple of Hercules Victor, Chiesa di San Giorgio Al Velabro, Bocca Della Verita, Arch of Janus, Canons Regular of the Holy Cross, Ponte Palatino, Ponte Emilio o Pone Roto, and map more. It is worth planning your trip to this area and walking around for one or two hours to see everything. In my opinion, this is a forgotten area of Rome that is full of historical significance.

I am going to basically copy and paste my review for all of the sites I visited in this area as I feel going is here is like another forum area with lots of sites.

This is well worth admiring for a few minutes. We could only see it from the outside though, as it's fenced off.

(It seems many visitors confuse this with the temple of Vesta in the Forum, probably because the Vestals had round temples.)

A well-preserved Roman temple, but little is known of its origin and history. I’d classify it as a “Not a must-see attraction of Rome.” Based on my view that it is not a “must see” tourist attraction, I’ll rate it as “Average” from a sightseers perspective.

The marble and travertine-limestone Roman, round Temple of Hercules Victor, is a one minute walk from Tempio di Portuno. The outer ring of the temple if comprised of tall columns. Although nice, it is not a “Must see” as there are many nicer things to see on a three to four day Rome visit.
