The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

    Italians Love their Republics
One of many similar Piazzas throughout Italy it is actually the old site of Roman time baths. The area has undergone many changes over the centuries but mainly after Papal orders in 1565-1566 to construct the church & his own Palace. It took on new meaning after the 1870 unification of Italy and today apart from the nearby homeless colony it is a very impressive area.

Famous Square with a Beautiful Fountain in the middle.
This is one of the most famous squares in Rome located next to Termini station. It has a metro station, a beautiful fountain in the middle surrounded by two semi circular buildings divided by Via Nazionale street. Lots of restaurants, hotels and shopping places in this area.

A lot of vehicular traffic but some nice things to see
This is a heavy motor traffic area just beside Termini Station. There a few interesting things to see here including the semi-circular of portico lined buildings, Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri church and Fountain of Nymphs in the centre of the square. It is also where important Via Nazionale begins. A lot of vehicular activity at Piazza della Repubblica, keeps it from being as enjoyable or the sake of tourism as many other squares you will have opportunity to visit and spend time during visits to Rome.

Impressive piazza which I came across while on a wander from Termini station, with the Naiadi Fountain in the middle and the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri church at the side.

However, the constant traffic was a put off.

Worth a look if you're in the area, but not worth going out of your way to see.

Piazza della Republica is easily found because it has a metro stop. It is a busy plaza with a wonderful fountain in the middle. The plaza is huge with shops and cafes. The fountain is the main attraction. There are many fountains and squares in Rome and this one of the best.

Just a very nice Piazza. Metro station. Taxi stand. One stop away from Termini Station. Convenient to the Opera, National Museum, Saint Maria Vittoria, Santa Maria degli Angeli, and various other churches and attractions.

Many places to eat in and around the Piazza. Great people watching spot.

Be careful crossing the street in this area.

Gorgeous square that has to be seen and is an essential part of the places to visit in Rome. Very centrally located and walking distance to other main attractions/places of interest

Im always left speechless by this incredible building. It was remodeled not so long ago and it is just beautiful and a nice place to go to to have a cappuccino, a meal or just stroll around and window shop at the many little stores inside! At night it is the most beautiful with all the lights on. Cannot say enough❤️

Piazza Repubblica - two twin curved buildings flanked by one of Rome's oldest churches - a stunning piece of architectural work, Near the Main Train Station. If you're there, walk along Via Nationale for shopping, stop at Via Quatro Fontane, turn up toward Via Quirinale - at the cross section of these streets are four fountains - one on each corner.

From there, walk along Via Quirinale toward Piazza Quirinale - the former Palace of Popes and King of Italy - entrance fee 5Euros, Open Sunday mornings only. Get there early - the line ups compare to the Vatican. Well worth the visit. Not Sunday? Walk through the Piazza and down the stairs - turn right and you're at the Trevi Fountain.

This is a wide and busy square, but it has a good look due to the sculptures and the nice fountain, but it is not a must-see place.

Rome is blessed with numerous grand squares and Piazza della Repubblica is one of them. Not a specific site that you would go out of your way to see but if you are in the area it is well worth a visit. There are a number of coffee and gelato shops to make your visit more pleasurable.
