This is the mausoleum of Emperor Augustus, at the moment there is a reconstruction. It is opposite the Ara Pacis Museum. It looks quite interesting outside.

This is the mausoleum of Augustus and it has been allowed to fall into disrepair. When we visited the site was covered in hoarding as the restoration work has started and there wasn't much to see.

To be fair the Tomb of Caesar Augustus is obviously undergoing major renovations. The condition of the current site is depressing and unworthy of Rome's first Imperator but hopefully in time, perhaps 5 years, it will be restored to a historical place of significance in...More

This was supposed to be a highlight of the trip after viewing Eat, Pray, Love but it has been shown no love. Blocked off and basically a building site, I really hope this place changes in the future. Not even a sign outside to tell...More

View this while walking from Piazza di Popolo down the river bank to the Aras pacas. I wish it was a little better kept, but it's worth a look.

We ventured to see as much as possible this mausoleum complex that is completely fenced off from the public. So much history and yet complex so neglected. Older than Hadrian's Mausoleum, Augusto's tomb used to house the ashes of various family members and other noted...More

Considering how important Augustus is in Roman history it is amazing that the Mausoleum has been ignored for so long. Work is ongoing and one hopes it will be somewhat restored in the future. For now, a 5 minute photo op on the way to...More

You would think that the mausoleum to the first emperor of Rome would be a treasured building and well preserved. Unfortunately you would be wrong. Apparently it has been promised for many years to be restored but there are no signs of anything going on....More

Campo Marzio
From its original role as ancient army training fields
to its present-day identity as one of the city’s most
desirable neighbourhoods, the Campo Marzio is the best
place to get lost in Rome. Gorgeous Renaissance and
Baroque palazzos line the streets, and are filled with
enticing boutiques and food shops. By day, Rome’s
best-dressed denizens criss-cross its streets in a
fashionable parade of errands, occasionally pausing to
