This tour can be different things to different people. You walk on truly sacred, ancient ground under St. Peter's. Just be clear on why you are taking this tour. The tour itself does not last nearly as long as advertised, and goes only a very short distance. St. Peter's tomb is tiny and viewed from a distance of about 15-20... More

Did this while in Rome and it was the best experience of the trip. You have to book through the Vatican directly. http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/institutions_connected/uffscavi/documents/rc_ic_uffscavi_doc_gen-information_20090216_en.html It is a tour of about 15 people and guide works for the Vatican so it's full of good information. Our guide was an archaeologist so she knew everything very well. It is full of history and... More

Marc was not only extremely knowledgeable about everything you want to see in Rome, but also things you didn't know about Rome. I learned so much, and totally enjoyed his company. He was very amicable and also entertaining. I highly recommend him.

I highly recommend using GAR TOURS for your Vatican tour - Our tour guide, ANNA was phenomenal ! She was so knowledgeable and spoke perfect English, so easy to understand! In addition, her sense of humor was wonderful! The Vatican - We were on overload with everything to see - it was amazing and very moving. Of course, it is... More

Our family spent the whole day with Marc at the Forum, Coliseum, etc. We couldn't have gotten a better introduction to Ancient Rome. He was very knowledgeable about the history, politics, architecture, even the flora. He kept our 2 kids completely engaged and made the whole experience effortless and fun. He even picked an amazing restaurant for lunch. He was... More

Marc did a fabulous job keeping the whole family engaged (parents and kids ages 12 and 9) for three hours at each the Vatican and St.Peters (1day) and The Forum and Collosseum (1 day). We could never have learned or avoided the crowds or seen the truly "important things" had we not been with Marc. He was well worth the... More

I didn't think it could get any better than spending two weeks with my family in Rome until I met Marc Manser. Marc is not your ordinary tour guide. He is a spiritual guide, a friend and just a remarkable human being in general. Marc made my family and I understand and relate to the characters in Rome's history. He... More

I toured the Vatican with Marc Manser 5 years ago on a mother daughter trip. When I returned home, I told my husband that he had to visit Rome because I knew he would love it. We finally did a trip to Rome with his mother and aunt (80's), our 11 year old and his 10 year old cousin. I... More

Marc, and Key Rome Tours, did a terrific job introducing this city to us. Marc was very thorough, at the same time he was very astute in reading our interest level and energy for the subject at hand. In 2 1/2 days we covered a huge amount of history and art...but we were never bored or overwhelmed. It was a... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
