I like to do this whenever I visit a new city, and most of the larger metropolitan cities, both in the US and in Europe, have these Hop On/Hop Off tours. Take one of these tours when you first arrive in a new city. It is a great way to get an overview of most of the cities main attractions,... More

The tour traverse around the city but the congested streets make it boring with frequent long pauses. There are occasional narrations. We ended up getting off and saw more walking around and could spend additional time at each site. If you like to walk save your money and walk around the back streets.

We visited this with the viator that included all levels of the colosseum and Pallantine hill. Our guide was Gooya, who is a natural storyteller, making the colosseum come alive for the group. and the second guide was Lore. They were very friendly, informitive and empathetic toward varying degrees of fitness. We had just spent the previous day walking Pompeii... More

Ancient Rome can only be accessed on foot. The bus is only convenient if you have time, and kids or seniors. Otherwise walk and use public trasportation when needed. Staff were not very friendly. We had an old lady with a carry-on and 2 kids. They said we can either have a bag or the stroller on the same bus!... More

We just took hop on hop off tours in London (Big Bus) and Paris (L Open...same company as Rome tour I believe) that were very good but Rome was far less informative. I did a little research and sounds like this is fairly widespread with all of the companies in Rome but it was still a nice way to get... More

All of these companies are the same when it comes to price, stop locations and audio but this one offers a night but in your 24 hour ticket. So we went for this, knowing the buses are every 20/30 minutes but taking the option for a night tour in balance thought it worthy. WRONG...... The buses do not come every... More

What a waste of money. 64 euro for two days. The whole city is walkable, save your money. The busses have no air conditioning and no air movement you can die!!! What a waste it was.

If you desire a Hop On/Hop Off experience, then this is probably as good as any other bus. In torrential rain, we hopped on and sat on top where half of the bus was covered protecting us from rain, or sunshine. On a previous trip, I used the underground to get around. I prefer this method of transportation. There are... More

It's exactly what you'd expect. Biggest shortfall is the audio portion didn't work on any seat on the entire buss. And, it goes quite fast, so if you are a photographer, it takes some talent and quick fingers to get any good shots.

The buses a few in comparison with others. There is NO air conditioning. Two of the stops are for 10-15 mins for a driver break where he shuts the bus engine off and leaves for whatever. The audio tour is only on at certain points so you cannot tell if your earphones are working or not. The distances between stops... More

Staying in Piazza Venezia / Ancient City

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazza Venezia / Ancient City
If all roads lead to Rome, then they all end here. Piazza Venezia and the Ancient City are the very epicenter of the Eternal City. Within a 360-degree turn, Roman history unrolls in front of you, from its ancient beginnings to its 21st century transformations. Whether it’s those historical playgrounds known as the Roman and Imperial Forums, or the side-street shops, trattorie, and churches, this neighbourhood packs a cultural punch and then some. Screaming scooters, battling buses, crazy cars, and lots of foot traffic converge in the area all day long. By dusk, a different vibe emerges as the neighbourhood quiets down. Don't be surprised if you find yourself passing through the Piazza Venezia at least once a day, since it’s the most direct way to get from one side of town to another.
