Top ways to experience Fontana di Trevi
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighbourhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

    Beautiful Fountain. Happening Location.
Been to Trevi Fountain three times-always toss a coin in hoping to return to Rome. Can get crowded and people are always positioning for pictures. Be careful of your belongings pick pockets in area. Suggest two visits- one in early morning before crowds and one after dark when fountain is beautiful lit up. Fountain is drained at least weekly for the government to collect the coins -not sure of day or time though I've seen it on past visits.

Trevi street signage for pedestrians is flawed
Spent all day walking around this neighborhood to see Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, & other sights. The small pedestrian signs are spaced too far apart, so we almost gave up several times. The last tiny sign before Trevi pointed us directly to an outdoor cafe. The waiter laughed and said "Looking for Trevi Fountain?" Then he directed us to take a hard left, and finally in the distance we could hear the splashing water and knew we were close. Another hard right and it was there before us, surrounded by hundreds of other tourists. Good luck getting close, though I managed to half crawl my way to the front for a decent shot. Right across from the fountain are two great gelato shops. Pick the one with the shortest line since they both offer the same great choices.

    Trevi Fountain Experience
We went to the Trevi Fountain during a walking tour that was part of an excursion through our tour group. We visited on the first Monday in July and sometime around 6pm, so I was not surprised to see the fountain area clogged with visitors. Most of the visitors who were seated in front were kind enough to move temporarily so my family and I could get some good pictures. The water looked very clear and the sculptures were amazing. Definitely a must see when visiting Rome.

    Overcrowded beauty
The place itself is absolutely stunning, but the selfie-crowd is absolutely annoying... there´s so little space to enjoy the beauty of the fountain that you want to scream. The only quieter spot is on the sides, but there is of course a limited view of the whole place. On the other hand, the magic of the place is still so strong that it is impossible to miss it when visiting Rome.

    Water works
Beautiful fountain, it’s set up in a way that you maybe able to move your way through the crowd to get a good photo without having other people in it. All the restaurant are packed so ensure you eat before you come. I have been a couple of times and this spot has never not been full of admirers.

Very impressive, though can be very busy
It's pretty impressive, we arrived on one of the hottest days in Rome, on a Sunday, and the fountain was slammed, so many people there! That said, still managed to weave our way to the actual fountain itself and took the obligatory selfies sitting on the edge of the fountain. Went back in the evening - even busier !! Definitely a 'must see' if you are in Rome . . .

Most beautiful work of architecture in Rome, a must see!
You cannot miss Trevi Fountain when on a trip to Rome, this could easily be the top attraction after St Peter’s Basilica. We were amazed by the beautiful architecture and the magnificence of the structure though it is always crowded. Lot of good places to eat around the fountain too. It’s totally free!

    Good Returns Mostly
From my first visit in 1979, and the coin I tossed, it has been a great investment as I'm on my 7th visit!! No other coins since so the first one is still working? I didn't need 3! Not too sure if I'll be back though after the pick pockets on the subway?? Have visited all times of the day & night but was still gob smacked by the crowds this time. A beautiful fountain that has roots going back to early Rome but this one was opened in 1762 and still please the eye today.

    Beautiful
Such a beautiful sight. It is absolutely overrun with tourists but if you give yourself a minute you can find a small spot to chuck a coin in. Also, in the far right of the fountain there is a smaller fountain tucked away and almost no one is there. It’s said if you drink from the fountain with your loved one your will stay together for life. A very romantic part of an otherwise very touristy sight.

Famous fountain that’s a must see in Rome
Probably most famous water fountain in Rome, Trevi Fountain is such a massive structure with impressive statues in it. Located in friendly area with many laneways with shops and cafes to enjoy. Good to see during day or night, but would say night time atmosphere is much better with fountain lit up. As you could imagine gets incredibly busy so enjoy it with hundreds of others.

The fountain is spectacular. We first went quite late in the evening and although lots of people about it was easy to get a good view and photo spot. We returned on the afternoon of 01 Jan and it was so crowded you couldn't get anywhere near.
If you can avoid the crowds, do.

I recently saw Federico Fellini's black & white sixties classic - 'La Dolce Vita' set in Rome. Two memorable images stuck in my mind, the first being a helicopter carrying a statue of Jesus flying over the 'Parco degli Acquedotti', and the second was Anita Ekberg cavorting in the Trevi Fountain at night. It's a great sequence, I just had to see the fountain in daylight, and in colour!
We arrived at 2pm, the fountain and surrounding area was very busy, and this was at the end of February. I dread to think what it's like in the summer! The Baroque fountain is a very impressive site, and looked much bigger than it did in 'La Dolce Vita'. The sun reflecting off the water made the marble statues behind the fountain really stand out. Be warned when it's crowded as it was the day we visited, pick pockets will swoop. The nearest metro station to the fountain is 'Barberini' (line 'A'), which is a seven minute walk.

Our hotel wasn’t far from here so we tended to walk past it several times each day/night. Beautiful during the day, but even better at night.
Would recommend grabbing gelato from the nearby Melograno and eating by the fountain, taking in the atmosphere and the details of the amazing sculptures.

Even more spellbindingly majestic than I originally predicted. At dusk and nighttime, the Fountain is brightly illuminated and quite entrancing.

Yes, it is crowded but it’s wholly worthwhile making sure you wait to capture the right moment to photograph Trevi Fountain – it is brilliant.

We traveled to Rome in February and the fountain was a must. We came on a Thursday evening and it was so crowded. There were so many people trying to get pictures, make wishes, and selfies. The area was very pleasant with pastry shops and restaurants all around. Definitely recommended coming here early or later on the evening after 8pm.

Trevi is majestic. Surrounded by various stores; the are has high traffic so watch out for pick pocketing. Going early morning is best I found as this area is always ful but less full early morning. The site is well maintained..

Well, these coins are working, you toss a coin over the shoulder to retun and you do! There is so much to see, besides the main attractions! But the fountain is a sure beauty..you cant but help fall in love with it! Like its own airconditioning system, especially going in the hot month of August. The coolness of tge splashing waters makes the journey worth while and cooling when you are near this. Although this year of 2020 is very different, due to the coronavirus..it was sectioned that you coukd not get too close,so not to accumalate crowds hanging around...you are still within a distance to throw your valid coins, which pre Covid would fund their local charities of over €3,000 a day! The beauty of tge sculptures will make you reach for your camera for pictures and of course the!! selfies

Very Beautiful, intricate fountain! I came back here twice. Just staring at it whilst enjoying my gelato was perfect. I visited on the month of jan that’s why i think it was less crowded. I managed to take decent photos.

Yes it's packed, but still a must. The fountain is so beautiful. Incredibly intricate statue work and artistic lighting and of course we had to throw in a coin each. Well worth going at different times of day to see the lighting.

I have been here with my family (wife and 12 years dother) and it was just beautiful. We visited Fontana di trevi in February. The weather was splendid not to hot not to cold. In this period is not to crowded. The Fontana is beautiful but you have to take care of 2 things-1 you have to visit in the daytime and in the night time 2 you have to have a penny in order to make a wish
