Though the church is beautiful and imposing, what I found most rewarding was visiting the tomb of Blessed Bartolo Longo which is in a chapel accessed through the side of the sanctuary.

This Basilica dominates the square and the modern town of Pompei. From here everything radiates outwards, so lots of bars/cafes/restaurants and the resultant rip off the tourist. Inside the Basilica is very richly adorned and worth a visit.

Antonio from our hotel recommended that we go visit the Church - it’s nice - WOW what an understatement - it’s amazing. The story of the are; the church; the beginnings is wonderful then walk into the church and WOW. The beauty in the paintings and mosaics - pay the €2 to go up the lift to the top of the Bell Tower incredible views of old, new and Mount Vesuvius…
