Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been to Pompeii on three different trips. And each time we find new things they have uncovered. Out first visit was in 1973, and it is amazing what they have uncovered over the years. I met one of the archeologist that has worked the site for years, and is now retired, but goes back for tours,

The real political social heart of ancient Pompeii. This is the place where you could get news of any kind you could meet the people that mattered in the city. The same tradition is maintained in the Italian cities and countries with the "piazza"

This was my second trip to Pompeii, and by far the most enjoyable. My first trip, I tried to see EVERYTHING and only ended up exhausted, moody, and overwhelmed. Remember, Pompeii is a well-preserved major ancient city—a CITY! It is large. You can easily walk through the entire city, but if you want to poke inside many of the villas, temples, stadiums, etc, then you must realize that this will take a lot of energy and time. Additionally, the streets are a hazard. The sidewalks are very high from street level, so each time you need to drop onto the street, your knees and ankles will take a beating on the twisty hard cobble-stone. I guess my biggest bit of advice is: collect a map at the information center next to the ticket office, decide the must-see buildings and mark an area on the map that takes up only 1/3 of the entire site but includes the highest number of the must-see buildings. Then leisurely visit those places. Afterwards, if you are still up for more, then by all means see the rest. I just think that Pompeii is best in small portions and with a strong plan.

The forum was on the highlights for me. It’s a nice spot to pause, soak in the history, and reflect on the tragic beauty of Pompeii.

Practical notes: Pompeii is very easy to get to from Naples. Naples has a convenient, safe, efficient baggage storage that you might want to use so that your visit to Pompeii is comfortable. Take the local train in the basement of the Naples train station to Pompeii. It’s the local train with the END POINT OF SORRENTO. Don’t take any other train. It must say SORRENTO. Once at the Pompeii Scavi station, head right, pass a tourist office that is NOT officially of the Pompeii site (a man in that office will likely try to swindle you aggressively), pass a row of souvenir & food stands. To your left will then be the entry into Pompeii. The ticket office will face you. To the side is the official tourist office with free maps and also a bathroom that is very tiny and dingy. Once inside Pompeii, you will not have access to water, food, bathrooms—anything. So take your own water/snacks, and be sure to use the bathroom before entering.

If you come by train (pompei scavi station), dont use the loos at the station and ignore all of the hawkers. TURN RIGHT, walk 150 yards and the entrance is there on the left. There are FREE toilets on the left and you can pick up a FREE map and basic guide from the next to the Audio Guide window. The official ticket office is by here.

As for Pompei as an attraction.... Unique, Iconic and Unmissable.

What a fabulous tour we had here. Our tour group had a booking with a personal guide and he was that good that we spent the whole day here which went several hours overtime.
This has to be one of the highlights of this country. Take your time, take plenty of pictures and make sure you have a knowledgeable guide.

Part of the Pompeii architectural park, fully depicting the public life in a Roman city with exposition to Vesuvio, that burried it, but kept it preserved. An open-air museum that must be seen in a life time

Here sits a forum in the city. It’s amazing that they had tunnels to upper seating to keep people separated. The technology really has not changed much over the years

Pompeii's Forum is huge (157m x 38m), easily big enough to hold ancient Pompeii's entire population. Very open in the centre, with impressive buildings around the perimeter, including the Granai del Foro containing some of the plaster cast bodies and hundreds of amphorae. Many large Doric and Ionic columns.

Adjacent to the Forum are many of Pompeii's most important buildings - Temple of Jupiter, Basilica, Temple of Apollo, Temple of Vespasian, the Macellum.

It was a dull cool start to the day and my friend and I were cold. It was starting to rain so we just happened to come around the corner to find the forum so in we went. Luckily no line up and the washrooms were clean. Though we did not have one the pizzas they were making looked delicious
