Pompeii Ruins & Mt Vesuvius Volcano Day Trip from Rome

4,447 reviews
While vacationing in Rome, spend time away from the big city without doing a ton of planning on a guided tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Hike to Mt. Vesuvius' crater (summer only) and explore Pompeii with a guide, discovering lesser-known historical info as you go, and don’t worry about entrance fees they are included.

It is located close to another entrance, not the main gate. You should really start your tour here. Hire a local private guide!

What is interesting besides the structure is that this coliseum is older than Rome's and the Gladitorial Academy is across the street from it. We saw both the Gladitory entrance as well as where the wild animals would enter.

Very well preserved Roman Amfitheatre. Oldest known example in the world! Even older than the one in Rome.

We saw the amphitheater as part of a tour of Pompeii with Alex Tours. Alex demonstrated the acoustics which were quite impressive even with the deterioration of some portions of the structure. We also got a good sense of the role that activities in the amphitheater played in the lives of the people of Pompeii. The size of the amphitheater wasn’t as large as today’s stadiums or the coliseum in Rome but was still quite large. This is definitely something to see if visiting Pompeii.

We went to this Anfiteatro arena and was taken back by the size of this arena, this is the place were Pink Floyd did a concert on there own, there is a tribute to them playing there music under the edges of the arena, worth a visit.
