Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you close your eyes you can imagine the crowd of customers, the smell of Falerno wine enriched with honey and spices, then still hot bread meat and the inevitable Garum.
Thus the thermopoly of Vetuzio Placido could have appeared, an excellent example of what could have been a restaurant site in the Pompei of 79 BC.
This restaurant is located on the busy street of "via dell'abbondanza"
Definitely worth a visit

Adjacent to the House of Vetutius Placidus, this is one of many thermpolia dotted around Pompeii. Well preserved, with a marble counter with jars inset into the worktop to hold the food which could be seen by the customers before buying. A few frescoes here as well.

This was the most complete Lunch / Dinner place which is part of a residence. I saw many along side of the via but this was first one which was inside and had painting on its wall

It is so good to see how people lived back in ancient times, (unfortunately due to a terrible occurrence, fortunately, the whole place was preserved in ash), even back than fast food was popular, the fresco on the wall tells the story, (back than an advertisement of whats available).

This is an interesting building in Pompeii. It has ovens and kitchen counters that were used in food preparation and service.

I am not sure if at other times it has been possible to enter this place but when we visited it was one of the ones that you view from the street. It is still interesting as there is a large serving area with the storage jars set into the marble top and there is an impressive fresco painting at the rear.
Many of the other food and drink outlets that you see are far more smaller and more basic

The Thermopolium of Vetutius Placidus was reopened after restoration in March of 2010. A thermopolium, a modern day equivalent of a fast-food restaurant, was a popular establishment in ancient Rome. It was usually connected to the owner's house as is the case here. The name of the owner comes from graffiti on an outside wall urging people to vote for Vetutius Placidus. The house was closed at the time of our visit but the thermopolium can be seen from the street in its entirety. It has a bar counter with built-in jars to hold food and drink. Behind the counter there's a beautiful painted lararium (household shrine) depicting the master's genius, the Lares (protectors of the house), and gods Mercury and Dionysus.
