Beautiful on the Outside

The castel was not open the day were arrived so we walked around and enjoyed the architecture. Wish it had been open, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

We had just finished a sight seeing tour of Naples and had about 90 minutes left before we had to return to the ship when we thought that a visit here could be opportune as the tour bus had stopped right outside. We bought tickets about 6€ each, free if over 65 and wandered into the huge central courtyard. We... More

So much of history starting from reign of Charles I of Anjou in XIII. Beautiful cylindrical towers. The courtyard with Catalan elements. Museum with paintings of XV-XVIII centuries.

You have some choices when it comes to visiting a castle in Naples; I had originally considered seeing Castel del l'Ovo when planning the trip – but our morning walk along the harbor turned out to be longer than I expected. When I saw Castel Nuovo suddenly appear about a half mile away and realized that Castel del l'Ovo was... More

Hubby and I walked through the entrance gate into this gigantic castle's courtyard, where you must buy a ticket to the museum if you want to tour the inside of the castle. While tickets are only 6 euros, I wasn't interested in seeing another museum. You aren't able to tour the castle unless you buy museum admission. We read the... More

Maschio Angioino (its second name) has fascinating history - it was built in XIIIth century and had survived many owners.

We visited here one late afternoon, and enjoyed the amazing architecture. We debated about going in, but decided just to marvel from outside. It is huge, very grand, and great to picture.

We were wondering whether to pay to go into the Civil Museum given that other reviews said it was 'boring', but were persuaded to take the guided tour (in English) with our excellent guide Sergio. You get access to parts of the castle that regular visitors don't see, including the renovations underground that are still in progress and the cats'... More

Impressive. This is what you think of when you hear the word castle. Who would have guessed it's an art museum? Could be a nice place for a panini shop on the parapets. The crown jewels were interesting and the old Roman baths.

We liked this castle much mostly because of the brilliant architecture and because of the viewpoint it offers. There are also several artefacts on display, nothing to catch our attention though. It overlooks the port and the Centro Storico. Visited September 2015
