Great

Here are displayed the results of the excavation of Pompeii. In a clear context is the history told of the eruption of the vulcano. High lights for me is the armour of the gladiators.

Amazing things in a sketchy display
Oct. 2021
The pieces of art, especially from Pompei and Ercolano, on show in the museum deserve top marks and rival with those of any other museum. The paintings in particular are great but also the delicate statues and the mosaics. The display is a bit sketchy and not very clear, many rooms are closed while others are open but dark and somehow creepy. Must be seen.

Many treasures great location. Open Oct 2021

I visited in October 2021 and it is OPEN. The layout can be confusing as they don't have paper maps. It is beautiful with many sculptures and treasures. I would appreciate more signage and directions.
Easy to locate and walkable area.

A wasted opportunity
Oct. 2021
This museum is OPEN.

It's also one of the worse museums I ever visited. Why? Because it contains treasures but it makes no effort to help the visitor appreciate or find them. One example: I rented for (5 euros) the audioguide. The introduction (#1) started well. But would you believe it that the numbers of the exhibition corresponding to the numbers in the audioguide are simply NOT there? Maybe they removed them to paint and they were never reinstated.

In one room, I asked an employee renting something else and she told me that for that particular room the name was 59. But no numbers anywhere.
Of course, I had to give up. Visitors are expected to wear masks, but employees don't. How annoying can they get?

The best thing is what I found works for Naples in general: have zero expectations and then you will not be disappointed. Staring with my hotel, the principle is working well. Don't expect to find an ATM. Don't expect to find clean anything. You will not be disappointed.

Totally recommend

The museum was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and knew English very well. The ride outside is great for a pic and the space is big with many things to see. 2€ price for EU young people is an extra

Must see for history fans
Sep. 2021
IT IS OPEN! Only one day in week is closed.
The place was so nice. It is a huge colection of Egyptian, Roman and further periods, the exhibitions included also excavation findings of Neapolis and Parthenope.
I was confused about the way the exhibits were described pointing to what collections it came from as the most important thing, but it seemed redundant to me, I would rather find out more about the exhibit itself. Audio guide was a help with this.

still open, but a little limited
Jul. 2021
This is an amazing museum. Unfortunately, some of the best parts are currently closed, including Magna Grecia and the Secret Gallery, so if you're set on seeing something in particular, check the museum website (which, contrary to some comments, CLEARLY discloses what isn't open). Even with the partial closures, it has an unparalleled collection of ancient art.
I don't know why TripAdvisor thinks it's closed.

Very interesting place that however is a little Limited due to covid
Jul. 2021 • Couples
At first I would like to state that TripAdvisor says it's closed - IT IS NOT CLOSED, it is open, however some rooms and exhibitions are closed (including the secret room, which was a shame)

My boyfriend and I visited this museum in late July of 2021, it is open, but some exhibitions are closed.

Most of the museum is open, and we still used around 3 hours here because there were so many interesting things to look at.

I would recommend a visit to the archeological museum of Naples to everyone (especially EU citizens aged 18-24, as they only pay 2€ per person)

It is a shame that some of the great exhibitions like the jewel room and secret room are closed due to covid, but it is definitely worth a visit either way. We saw so many interesting and beautiful finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum

Confused
Jul. 2021
Their website says it is open but the message from Tripadvisor says it is temporarily closed. I am confused. We have not been there yet. Planned on visiting it in September.

Wow and, due to pandemic also disappointing
Jun. 2021 • Family
An amazing museum, with magical sculptures and finds from Greek and Roman times, as well as a cool Egyptian collection.
Unfortunately due to pandemic, several areas/rooms were closed (Secret Chamber/Room, Magna Grecia (with all the mosaics) as well as the Farnese Gems). And this is not clearly announced when entering.
What is there is superb, however left with a feeling it could even have been better…
