Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I mean what can you say, it’s a lift that takes you from the beach to the top of the hill. The lowest you can get for a holiday I guess but it will get you there, I mean you are eating the most wonderful pasta all this time in Italy and you should probably burn it off by taking the stairs.... Steins of a Peroni at the top for €15

In the early days of our visits to Sorrento we happily walked down a very steep hill to the port of Marina Piccola and, on occasions when we couldn't be bothered to wait for a bus, we would hike back up.
On a trip about three years ago, we returned from Capri totally exhausted after extensive exploring in the heat. We headed off to catch a bus. The queue was long, and buses tiny.We noticed a long line of people heading off towards a narrow alleyway so we decided to follow and, lo and behold, there was a lift! What a wonderful surprise. We went through a turnstile and paid one euro to get to the top. Brilliant! Best euro I have ever spent!!!
The lift came out in the garden at Villa Comunale, next to Hotel Tramontano.Fantastic!
Five minutes later we were in Tasso Square.
Have used the lift several times since to get back up from the port. We usually walk down the steps from The Villa Comunale to the port as the views are so lovely.

After exiting the ferry at the port there are signs directing you to the lift. If you don’t use the lift, you will have to walk up several, and I mean several, steps. If you have luggage, save your back and follow the signs to the lift, the cost is one euro.

If you plan to take the boat to Capri or Naples, this is the way to go from the city center. It may look or sound weird that you are paying a buck or so to take an elevator but after taking it both ways you realize it’s so so worth it. If you are traveling with kids or if you are carrying big bags then you will probably thank the person who made these elevators. You are paying for the convenience and it’s worth it.

This lift is great when you want to go from the marina to the main town. It is only 1 Euro per person and well worth it, particularly in the hot weather. There are two lifts so any queues subside quickly and the top point is close to the park and shops.

This elevator between Sorrento's port and the city's historic downtown provides a nice alternative to walking up or down dozens of steep steps, especially for those with mobility or time issues. For example, I arrived by hydrofoil on a very short day trip from the island of Ischia and wanted to make the most of every second in Sorrento.
When I got off the boat, I walked for about 5 minutes, following the lift/ascensore signs to the elevator and paid an attendant the 1 E user fee. At noon, no one stood in line so I got on the small elevator immediately and went on a 35-second ride (I timed it) to Ville Comunole, the public park above on a clifftop. I estimate it would have taken about 20 minutes to ascend on foot, a not-so-pleasant prospect on an extremely hot day under a blazing sun.
The park proved to be the perfect spot to begin exploring the city's historic district. Charming Convento di San Francesco stands at the edge of the park and the Visitor Information Center is a short walk away. For those arriving by boat with luggage, consider getting a room at a hotel near the park and using the elevator for transport.
At the end of my brief visit, I opted to walk down to the harbor for the boat back to Ischia and to enjoy the view along the way. I no longer needed to focus on saving time and found the descent on foot to be pleasant and easy.

We walked down to Marina Piccola for a boat tour in the morning. That was some walk! While the path was pretty clear, there were lots of stairs and crossing some streets when you can. We also made sure to use Google maps! It took a couple of minutes longer than we expected. Coming back, we all agreed to take the lift. It was easy to find since the signs were all pretty clear. There was a line to use it but we were through in a few minutes. It was super convenient! If we had to do this all over again, we would probably take the lift down to Marina Piccola as well.

Given the fact that the beach is down a cliff, this lift is a godsend! We walked down the windy road to go and see the marina and the beaches in Sorrento (Meta beach is much nicer). For 1 euro each, you can get the lift back up into the town, no effort. It is well signed from the beach and clean and well looked after.

Used this lift a few times when in Sorrento. Was much quicker than walking down in extremely hot weather. €1.90 return or €1 single. No queues, no hassle. Just pay and use. Down in port in less than a minute!

My husband and I took this chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro and it was amazing. The view from the top is spectacular. These are single chairlifts and you feel like you are the closest thing to zip lining but safer.
