    Beautiful ceilings & nativity scene
    My husband and I visited the cathedral once which we enjoyed, it's on the right near the top of the Corso Italia, before Piazza Tasso, the outside of the church is quite plain but the inside is beautiful, with ornate painted ceilings. As you go in, on the left hand side, behind glass there's an amazing nativity scene which is very detailed & interesting to see. Not a massive cathedral but a calm & beautiful place.

    Amazing Nativity Scene
    I entered this cathedral with my family on our first full day in Sorrento, while on a walking tour with Jet2. The Nativity scene was a real stand out feature, and the views inside definitely made up for the less than remarkable exterior of the building. Worth a visit.

Small but nice detail inside

A small cathedral but really nice inside for a peaceful look around. The ceilings look amazing with lots of detail. It comes out into a nice courtyard.

Amazing Nativity Scene

I entered this cathedral with my family on our first full day in Sorrento, while on a walking tour with Jet2.

This Catholic cathedral is dedicated to St James & St. Philip & is located just off the Corso Italia.
Although it is more of a church than a cathedral, it is nonetheless very beautiful and very spiritual. Rebuilt in the Romanesque style, you can admire the exquisite paintings and architecture in relative peace and quiet. If you like this sort of experience I recommend a visit.

More pleasant medium sized church than Cathedral, but still worth a visit.

Sorrento Cathedral lies on the pedestrianised section of Corso Italia and is a short walk from Piazza Tasso. Do not set your expectations on something akin to the Cathedrals in Milan or Florence for example. This is a fairly plain building from the outside which is easily walked past without realising it is there. In fact we did before going back and finding the entrance. And inside it’s a decent decorated church but nothing to elevate it above others.
However, originally constructed in the 11th century before undergoing a transformation into its current design roughly 400 years later, there are a couple of internal features that make it worth a visit. One of these is the central ceiling, entirely painted on cloth with paintings depicting martyrs of Sorrento, saints and bishop among angels. The polychrome marble altar is impressive too, but the feature I found most stunning was the wooden carved 3D nativity scene in the Neapolitan tradition of the eighteenth century which is behind glass to the left front of the church by the main entrance. A truly amazing piece of carving which has you wondering how many man hours that must have taken.
Another interesting feature of the church is its Bell Tower. This striking tower can be seen along Corso Italia but doesn't actually form part of the main cathedral building.

Pretty typical cathedral. Don’t be surprised that the outside is fairly plain but pretty neat inside. It s free to visit so pop in for a quick look

Interesting Baroque cathedral

This cathedral is dedicated to Saints Philip and James. It is located on the Corso Italia pedestrian street. Surprisingly, its entrance, not its apse is facing east! The church was built in the XI. century and completely rebuilt in 1573, to repair the damages caused by the invasion of the Turks. In 1924 the facade was once again rebuilt.

Although there was an ongoing vespers mass, we still decided to went in because we wanted to see the interior of this church where Torquato Tasso was baptized. We remained close to the entrance. The interior is splendidly decorated in Baroque style. Between the nave and the aisles, there are six pairs of arches, the columns are decorated with inlaid marble. The ceiling has Baroque style paintings.

We realized that we joined the mass near its end. After the Pater Noster, according to the Catholic tradition, we exchanged handshakes with the other believers in our vicinity. It was an uplifting experience!

Walking around the town we went into the Cattedrale for a quick look round. Lots to see and fantastic paintings and colours. Artefacts show that this is a wealthy area in Italy and good to look at.
