- Jethro6721,135 contributionsBeautiful 18th / 19th c paintings of Sorrento in peaceful surroundingsAn excellent private collection given to the town. The archaeological rooms were closed when I visited but very much enjoyed the mainly 19th paintings of Sorrento and Naples and wished it looked more like that now rather than the present day chaos with the traffic and tourists. Some beautiful views from the villa across the Bay of Naples. You'll spend about an hour here.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 4 November 2023
- Sightsee320395638051 contributionA gem of a museum.A wonderful museum in the center of Sorrento - easy walk from the main piazzas. Beautiful exhibits & views across the bay. I bought a Sunday 12 noon ticket for the museum & gardens . The only unfortunate piece is that the museum closes at 1 pm on Sundays & 1 hour is not enough to see the museum & gardens.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 16 June 2024
- Mee N11 contributionsDefinitely worth the trek.Since this museum was conveniently located next to my hotel, I stopped by. There are some very beautiful items in it. A great deal of history, which I thought was fascinating. I walked by the garden and thought it would be lovely when it was in bloom. There's an amazing view at the end of the garden.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 August 2024

Absolutely an amazing and beautiful place to have a wedding ceremony. Clemenzia from the Museum worked with Caterina (our ceremony organizer) did an incredible job preparing the entire venue for our intimate wedding. The area itself provided nice shade from the sun in the hot middle day of Sorrento. The area is away from the main touristic area, providing a private feel to it. The venue itself was beautiful for pictures as well.
Caterina added/recommended details we did not think of and made the entire process stress free on our big day. She also took care of all the paperwork (translated documents, submitted it to the town hall), provided local florists, taxi service and more! Went above and beyond our expections!
For anyone considering having a wedding here, we would recommend it without any doubt and this is probably the best place to have your ceremony in Sorrento!

I would highly recommend a visit to Sorrento's Correale di Terranova Museum - I paid two visits to the museum in a recent week's holiday.
The museum is housed in the Villa Correale in Sorrento, part of a bequest by the Correale di Terranova family in 1900, together with much of the collection. Because of this, the museum has the feel of a stately home: housed in a beautiful villa with large windows, high ceilings and a fine staircase at the rear, much of the collections consists of the family's fine furnishings, incuding porcelain, paintings, furniture and a great many clocks(listen out for them all chiming on the hour!). Rather than an integrated educational experience, this is a place to wander round in a leisurely way, paying attention to those things that catch your eye, enjoying the cultured ambience and pleasures of a past age. My own favourites are the memorials of the poet Tasso, the eighteenth century "Biribisso" gaming board, and the painting "Study of heads" attributed to Van Dyck. The top floor has recently been adapted to house the fine collection of porcelain and also offers great views of the town and coast, and you can end your visit with a stroll through the villa's garden.
The museum has only a small shop and no cafe, but providing these would be at the expense of the collections, and are hardly necessary when a visit would normally take about an hour.
It would be a shame to regard a visit here as a way of passing a wet morning: because of the high windows the collection looks better in sunshine, and if it doesn't rain during your holiday, you could miss a real
treat if you don't see this wonderful museum!

This is a rare example of a museum which combines a unique setting in a historical villa with a wonderful garden (do not miss the view from the belvedere) with an eclectic collection of art and antiques, ranging from roman statues to 18th century porcelain and paintings.
The ensemble makes for a charming and interesting visit, well worth your time and the very reasonable entrance fee. It doesn't take longer than 1 hour and a half to see the place.

This museum is a short walk from Piazza Tasso on Via Correale. The large villa was once owned by the Correale Brothers. The villa was later donated—with the bulk of their collection—to the city of Sorrento.
There are four floors filled with artifacts, Neapolitan paintings, clocks, porcelain and ceramic collections. There are even fragments of an ancient Egyptian carving found in the region. I liked seeing the “death mask” of the author Torquato Tasso.
Outside is a quaint garden decent for a stroll. Today the museum also serves as a popular outside Musical Theater.
We were lucky that the Plaza Hotel gave us free vouchers to tour this museum. Normally the cost is eight euros.
We quickly found out there is no AC. The windows were open, though, giving fresh air and views towards the Bay of Naples.
We really can’t give Museo Correale five stars. The administration does not allow for inside photographs. Even the Met in NYC—with the most highly prized collections in the world—allows non-flashed photographs.
There is a lift for those that don’t want to take the steps up. And, finally, if you are in the garden, be careful if there was a recent rain. You could slip like I did over the dirt path marveling at the flowers and lemon trees.
If you have time, interested in the arts or even a visit on a rainy day, Museo Correale can keep your attention.

This museum is primarily a collection of artefacts gathered by two brothers over the course of their lives. As such, there is no overriding theme to any of it and it feels a bit like rooting through a dead relative's cupboards (albeit a very wealthy dead relative). Some of the artefacts are quite remarkable, but the level of information provided is very limited, meaning there is only so much you can take from it.
The building itself is quite beautiful, as are the gardens. It was being set up for an event when we were there, which slightly limited our movements, but most was still open to us.

This is a large and wonderful museum that is easy to get around and take your time in. The Correale brothers did put together some wonderful collections of inlaid wood, majolica, art work and furniture. Each floor as you ascend, offers more interesting and beautiful artifacts and antiques. The views out of the various windows and doorways get progressively more beautiful and a great surprise is the pathway leading out of the gardens and orchard in the rear of the building passing through other properties and ending up at a quiet and secluded terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.

We visited this museum on one of our days in Sorrento. It has it's own orchard and you get some fantastic views of Sorrento port. It's worth a visit. It has a lift so if you're less abled you're still able to access other floors.

We called here on our last day....it was just at the end of our street! The museum was very nice.....and the walk through the gardens to the Belvedere (beautful view .....never too old to learn something! ) was lovely. It takes you to the gardens and terrace of a hotel with beautiful views over the Bay of Naples. A nice start to our day......but I do think 8 euros per person is quite expensive!

Hi, just spotted your question, I can’t remember the entrance fee, which means it was not a lot! Well worth the visit for the views and the garden.

Thinking of booking one of the Three Tenors evenings. Is it worth it? The website I am using doesn't tell me what seats I am getting only that they are "Central" seats (1 category below "Exclusive"). At EUR 50 per ticket, I want to be sure I have a decent seats.
