Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We noticed this new museum during a spot of free time during our recent summer visit to Italy. Blink and you may miss it, but we’re so happy we found this welcome escape from the summer heat and sun. Tony, our guide, shared his knowledge and passion for Sorrento during our 45 minute experience in the converted seminary chapel. The museum has been open for only five weeks, but the care and attention put into each multimedia exhibit is clearly evident. Our favorites include the impressive scale replica of 14th century Sorrento, an original LP of Enrico Caruso singing “O Sole Mio”, and the actual boat Sophia Loren used in the 1955 hot movie “Pane, amore e...” (“Scandal in Sorrento”). The use of technology and vignette style exhibits kept our teenager mostly engaged. Add this to your itinerary when you visit Sorrento — you will be glad you did!

This is a great little museum in the heart of historic Sorrento. It is privately owned by a husband and wife with a passion for history. We were shown around by the husband and learnt a lot about Sorrento and the people who had lived there. The tour takes about an hour and is well worth the entrance fee

The story behind the creation of this museum is as fascinating as the stories of history that unfold as you move round it. With film animated commentary you will hear about royalty, poets, musicians and emperors. All set within the beautiful city of Sorrento. Don’t know where the name Sorrento comes from ? Take an hour out of your day to visit this museum - you won’t be disappointed.

A fascinating insight into the history and characters associated with the city. You are led into a long, cool, dimly lit basement where you are presented with a series of large, projected portraits and pictures. The characters within each picture are cleverly animated to speak of their lives and experience of Sorrento across the ages (in Italian with English surtitles). There is an impressive model of the city as it was in early times juxtaposed with photos of the modern day equivalent. Perhaps the most dramatic sequence is the telling of the story of Pompeii and Herculaneum when Vesuvius erupted. The special effects which accompany this tale are truly earth-shattering! (Might not be suitable for those who suffer from the effects of strobe lighting).
This museum is a must see experience and a great way to enhance your visit to Sorrento.

Sorrento is beautiful for many reasons, but I didn’t know nothing about its story, myths and legends: soo interesting and particular. I never imagined I could see paintings talking and telling their story (except in Harry Potter XD). Now no more spoilers, just visit it!

A true jewel in the beautiful city of Sorrento. A must see if you are planning a trip there.
You don't have to be a history lover to fall in love with this place, its exhibits and very knowledgeable and passionate owner. Just a quick conversation with him will make you realize you are up for a special treat and convince you this is a place you want to see.
The exhibits are thoughtfully put together and provide all information you need in order to learn about history of this stunning area. Please be ready for a room that recreates the eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. It's an unforgettable experience that you cannot find anywhere else. Yes, this museum is interactive with numerous special effects presentations that highly enhance the overall experience.
Please do yourself a favor and add this museum to your places to visit in Sorrento. You won't be disappointed and you will leave with extraordinary memories and lots of knowledge for you and to share.

We came on the recommendation of our holiday rep and a couple of other people in our tour group who'd been earlier in the week, and were so glad we did! The Sorrento Experience has only been open for a few weeks but the owner spoke with such passion about getting his vision for the exhibits up and running in the years leading up to opening, and it's been put together brilliantly. The multimedia exhibits were well thought out and very interesting, and had a similar vibe to the talking paintings seen in the Harry Potter movies (with English subtitles for us to understand!). Exhibits covered the history of Sorrento over the centuries, famous faces associated with the town, and local legends. The room which held the Vesuvius eruption experience was actually quite intense and really did give an insight into how terrifying it must have been to the people in AD79. Our guide through the museum was also great, spoke excellent English and was happy to answer any questions we had. Would definitely visit again if we're lucky enough to return to Sorrento.

This was such a pleasant surprise. It gave me an indoor immersive experience to expose myself to the history of Sorrento, The guide was incredibly hospitable. This is a family owned museum where the owner fulfilled his dreams to provide this experience. Thoroughly enjoyed and very worthwhile, great way to get out of the heat and learn about Sorrento past and present. Highly recommend!

My wife and I visited this museum as we were quite interested to find out about the history of Sorrento. We are really glad that we went. It was a wonderful experience. There were lots of impressive multimedia effects that brought different aspects of the past to life. We were guided around the various topics and were impressed by the attention to detail and way that historical personalities were displayed. The Pompeii street and eruption of Vesuvius were particularly enjoyable. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this new attraction.
