Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is located at the lower end of Via Ridola. The panoramic view from here is the iconic postcard image of Matera.
It is one of several panoramic points that offer views of the Sassi. The Terrace in front of Chiesa di Sant’Agostino is also good.

Worth going for the view back over the city and a walk across the wild thyme. The perfume was great . Easy to see how the local meat is so flavoursome when this is the fodder.

The Belvedere is located on one side of the piazza Giovanni Pascoli, right in front of the Palazzo Lafranchi. From here, you get a breathtaking view of a good part of the old city and the surrounding areas.

Although I consider the Luigi Guerricchio belvedere which is by the main Piazza Vittorio Venetto square the best one, you cannot go wrong with any belvedere.
Whichever you visit you will be rewarded with breathtaking, movie like views of this fascinating city.

Bel Vedere means "Best view" in Italian . This is probably the best view of Matera with the Cathedral, Sassi and Parco della Murgia. The observation platform is located to the left of the Palazzo Lanfranchi. The Seminary used to be located in this Palace. Here the poet Pascoli taught, the square is named after him.

A particular viewpoint in Matera because it allows you to see a truly original environment compared to what we are used to. The view is beautiful both during the day and in the evening with the lights.

We never tire of this exceptional view, ideally at sunset, when the facades change from beige to pink.

An observation spot right next to the Palais Lanfranchi (National Gallery). It is reputed to offer the most impressive panoramic views of the Sassi di Matera. Along the slope is a large, densely packed, multi-storied line of houses, with Matera Cathedral on a hill in front and Santa Maria de Idris on the rocky mountain to the right. I asked him in the early afternoon, and he said that the scenery at dusk was wonderful. A waterdrop object stands by the observation space, a three-meter bronze statue by Japanese artist Kenjiro Higashi that symbolizes the importance of water in Matera.

After having walked through part of the historic center, on 06.14.24 we decided to start our visit itinerary from the Belvedere Piazzetta Pascoli. What can I say: SPECTACULAR to see the Sassi and everything together for the first time. We are enchanted and want to start going down to discover them up close and so we did by walking through the alleys just to the side of the Belvedere, descending into the Sasso Caveoso.
