Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took a day out from Benidorm to visit Villajoyosa and with the intention of the 4pm English speaking chocolate tour. We had attempted to phone and email several times to see if we could pre-book a tour but no contact was ever made. The website / leaflets advise arriving 15 mins early to obtain a ticket for the tour as numbers are limited to 50. We were there at 15:30 and the ticket machine was not working, no form of queue as people were waiting sporadically in the reception area.
A staff member came out at approx. 15:55 and was unable to fix the machine, she explained in English that everyone waiting would get entry. She then explained something in Spanish which appeared to cause a lot of animosity and friction. The gate was initially opened to people who had managed to gain a ticket (approx. 20 people) before a stampede for who else could get in as it would still be limited numbers, this caused a very tense atmosphere and frustrating for those that had arrived later getting in through the gate before people who had been waiting 25 mins + in cold weather. The staff member initially advised we would have to wait until 17:00 for the next tour which was a Spanish speaking tour, there was no negotiating when enquiring if English speakers could go in at 16:00 and Spanish wait until 17:00. She then stated she would arrange another tour in 5 mins, then changed her mind and said maximum 20 minutes a staff member would come out and an interim tour could be held. This staff member did not appear by 16:30 (whilst the factory pumped out the smell of chocolate) and due to waiting in the cold for 1 hour we decided to head back for the tram to Benidorm.
So unfortunately I cannot comment exactly on the tour but I think a better entry system could be organised and certainly communication skills!!

Don’t go there if your Spanish isn’t perfect! We waited two hours for a visit in Spanish, even though my family didn’t understand a word of it. The guide was very arrogant, and hardly spoke to us, she just pressed a few buttons to start a film and some sounds.
The webpage doesn’t mention anything about this and as the factory was closed, it was really a waste of time!

Their systems works Spanish.

You can't take a ticket because they are supposedly full.

But then suddenly at 4 p.m. people come and take a ticket for another hour and are allowed in.

On their website it is even worse the first 14 days there would be nothing free anymore.

Then you ask for an explanation in English from an English-speaking guide. This one shruts his shoulders. And you can not enter.

At least it’s free but you do end up buying chocolate at retail prices.

The visit comprises 1 display about the history of chocolate; 2 audio visual about the company but pretty basic; 3 the old factory with old machinery but some interesting displays of the old ways of working; 4 view from a high level viewing area of production (no real explanation) and 5 the shop.

The guide was interesting and informative.

But do not be fooled - you are not going to see much in the way of chocolate production or chocolate being processed and moulded.

Not likely to revisit unless more visibility or the real production.

Also do not use the drinks machine at the entrance, it took my money but no drink and staff not interested in a refund.

Standing with children and older grandparents in full sun waiting to get tickets. Extremely bad system. You have to wait about 30 min just to get info that all tickets were reserved for this day. No help at all from stuff. They sent us to other side of factory telling that we can go at least to shop and the man on the gate wanted to get photos of our passport before begging in! We didnt have passport with us. Waste of time. Not recomennded,

Went on a bus tour which took us to the factory. Woman doing the tour was very friendly and informative, however, nothing much happening in the factory at the end of the tour so not much to see and no chocolate samples offered at all which was very poor as I would have liked to try the chocolate before buying it. Won't be back I'm afraid

This is a great place to visit. The guid was fantastic and the old things to see where in good shape. A video show explained the family story and the story of the coco been pretty well. The factory was not in running this late of the day but looks great. Fun day.

Great trip to the Valor chocolate museum and factory. Very interesting but unfortunately they weren't working due to the Easter holidays. The shop is amazing, cheaper prices and free chocolates handed out as well. Very enjoyable.

Alicia the tour guide was most pleasant enthusiastic and informative. She spoke perfect English. The factory itself was a bit of a disappointment especially after the wonderful smell emanating from the vents around it. Much more interesting was the history, artefacts and photos from times gone by. We really liked the exhibition of the very decorative vintage tins . The samples in the shop were delicious and there was plenty of chocolate to buy at reduced prices. This was a free entry and much enjoyed by us all. I would not really recommend this visit for young children because as their slogan goes - adults only. They produce high quality serious chocolate and nothing aimed at a child's taste. I believe this is the third rated chocolate factory in the world.

The Valor Chocolate Museum is located a short walk from the centre of Villajoyosa. Tours are every hour, on the hour and are free. English tours are at 11:00 and 16:00. You arrive and take a ticket from the machine in the outside waiting area. Although our Spanish is fairly limited we managed to follow a Spanish language tour reasonably well.
The tour has 4 parts:-
1. Animated video describing harvesting and manufacturing of chocolate.
2. Tour of museum building showing historic manufacturing equipment and original owner's office (toilets also here).
3. Tour around gallery of factory to see manufacturing and packaging plants in operation.
4. Visit to shop to sample and buy chocolate.
The guide was really friendly and took time to speak to us in English.
There is a table filled with samples of chocolate in the shop and you can eat as much as you want - very rich, high quality chocolate.
Note there is also a separate Valor chocolate cafe in the centre of Villajoyosa where you can also buy the chocolate.
Great free tour and thoroughly recommended!
