THE BULL 2.1 The bullpens or corrals: - The entrance to the pens. The staff was extremely helpful. There were audio guides (available in many languages) included in the price of admission. The place was dripping with tradition and culture. It was very language accesible with signs in many languages as well.

I lived in Pamplona during the 80s and 90s, so I know the city well. My home was in the old part of the city, just a two-minute walk to the Plaza del Castillo and a further two minutes to the bullring. Like most bullrings in Spain, Pamplona's is architecturally very interesting. But it is most famous for the events of the Fiesta of San Fermines (known to outsiders as the festival of the running of the bulls) which takes place in Pamplona each year from midday on the 6th to midnight on the 14th of July. The first running of the bulls begins at 8am on the 7th and takes place every day from then on. Each run ends in the bullring and it is quite a spectacle to watch. If you have any questions, ask me. I've run with the bulls many times and went to the fiesta each year from 1975 to 1996.

If you are going to visit Pamplona this is a must stop. We were just driving through on our way to San Sebastián but glad we stopped to have lunch. Loved walking around the old town but the best stop was definitely the tour of the bullring. I am against the whole blood sport but I learned a lot here and it is a large part of Spain's history which is what we came to see. Lots of videos and information and a reasonable cost to get in. You can visit the bullring without having to see an actual bull flight.

The visit of the Plaza de Toros in Pamplona delivers insights into the macabre phenomenon of “bull fight”, leaving out critical voices. It is nothing but the senseless killing of an animal for the pleasure of the crowd and justified by “tradition” or “cultural heritage”. A tradition based on macho value and supremacy of man over animal just does not fit into a civilized Europe. I am happy to hear that Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and Catalonia undertake efforts to abolish this sad spectacle. More and more young Spaniards are no longer interested in it and thus the Spanish “bull fight” may just die out due to fading demand. Tourists, however, should not support any kind of cruelty to animals. Thus the impressive building of Plaza de Toros may become a nice museum.

...and this is where Calle Estafeta starts withy all the shops , picturesque , balconied buildings and eventually to your left with Cafe Iruna .

This Plaza is of the right size to see the matadores close by. One can visit it for few euros and can practice one's bullfighting skills. They have a fake bull for pics and a Capote and wheeled "toro" to practice Tauromaquia (Bullfighting). It brought me back to the times when, as a child, after maneuvering my way into the ring for free, I saw matadores like Manuel Benitez, "El Corbobes"; Santiago Martin, "El Viti"; Cesar Giron. The pageantry of bullfighting is fantastically medieval and colorful. I am glad I lived it before it became politically incorrect (which I agree it is horrible). This bloody event could be made more humane if the bulls were not killed at the end. The plaza is at the end of the Calle Estafeta (Post Office Street), which in itself is where the action is before el Encierro (running) and la Corrida de San Fermin (Bullfight).

This museum is less than two years old but it’s a gift to those of us who’d like to learn about the Running Of The Bulls without the one million or so people that descend upon Pamplona every July. The interactive videos and ring access bring it all to life. I’ll like to have a closer view of the historic artifacts—including an an antique “suit of lights”—that are exhibited from afar across a secured room. But, this would be icing on a luscious corrida cake.

Saw the bull fight. Didn’t realize until halfway through that most of the crowd had move towards the arena. There was an older man that had been pressing against me the entire time. I had turned around and seen that nobody was behind him. He had been rubbing his genitals against me. Just watch out for perverts.
As you walk along the street boarded up with the wooden gates, it’s mostly just drunk people running around cheering at the TV. It was cool seeing someone’s leg getting stabbed by the bull’s horn.

Dear TeafankneePillow: We regret that you had a bad experience in Sanfermines 2017. As you write it, we do not know if it was inside the bullring or in the course of bull running.
We hope you reported it to the Police in the square in a timely manner. The San Fermin festival has a wide security device throughout the city.
What we can not share at all is that he considers it cool to witness the leg of a human being stabbed.

How do you get tickets for the tours of the bullring in Pamplona? What days and times are they available?

Hello: the guided tour is closed to the public until after the week of Sanfermin. The bullring is currently preparing for a music concert and then the bulls arrive.
At the end of July they reopen.

Are there bullfights in August or do they only take place during the San Fermin Festival?

There are no bullfights in the month of August. But the bullring is open for the interactive tour.
