We stumbled on this park while looking for the citadel, and I’m glad we did. We’d had a bit of a frazzled morning, and strolling around the walls, looking down on all the different ponds and fountains and all the man species of birds was very relaxing. On a nice day this is worth a visit for a bit of tranquility.

Great place for an afternoon walk in Pamplona. Fun to watch the animals play in the water and the park is surrounded by historic buildings.

This place is worth a visit. I visit it in august and I had the chance to see a local celebration near the park as well. Very nice places :)

There are some nice cafes on the premises, nice place to take a break from walking around Pamplona and have some delicious coffee in the shade.

Much of this lovely park incorporates the remains of the 17th century Bastion de La Taconera and it is impressive how these old walls are used as de facto pens for the various types of birds you can see here.
The formal part of the park is a delight to walk around and there is a decent cafe bar at which to rest a while or take some refreshment.

One are had chickens, roosters, peacocks and geese.
We saw just one deer.
It’s changed a lot since my last visit . But it’s still an impressive fort but don’t go too far out of your way.

This is a pretty good park if you want to see some birds, maybe a deer or two, nice flowers and trees. Im always looking for inexpensive places to visit and away from the maddening crowds, this park fit the bill for me. It is an old park, several hundred years old. Some interesting trees including Giant sequoias from North America. As far as birds go, ducks, chickens, geese, swans, peacocks, The trees in the park bring an abundance of other birds so if you have them, bring your binocs! There are deer here too, they are on a small island surrounded by a moat.

Parque de La Taconera is a lovely park in the centre of Pamplona. We actually walked through the park on our first day in Pamplona, from the train station to our hotel; a walk that took us about 40 minutes. We enjoyed it quite a lot. We also managed to return to the park once more two days later. We had a great time. The park is quite large with lots of trees and landscaped areas, with beautiful plants and nice flowers. There are numerous benches where visitors can sit and relax and enjoy the park. There are water fountains and surprisingly there is quite a bit of wildlife as well. We saw several different types of animals and birds, such as peacocks, chickens, ducks, swans and others. It was such a delight to see and it really made our day. During our visit we did not see many people there, probably owing to the season. This is a really terrific park and we would highly recommend a visit there.

The park is an interesting place and meanwhile a place for a break during strolling through the busy old town of Pamplona. The park houses a number of ancient military fortifications such as the Vuelta del Castillo, the Citadel forms the large green lung of Pamplona. An area of 280,000 square meters of which the pavilions, moats, strongholds, ravelins, fortifications, smaller buildings and glacis are now public places for leisure activities, sports and culture. The Citadel, the most important urban design reference point in Pamplona, is also considered the best example of the military architecture of the Spanish Renaissance and one of the most striking defenses in Europe.
The Citadel was created to defend Pamplona against enemies. In 1571, Philip II commissioned the construction, with the intention of combating the continuous attacks of the French army. The original structure was in the shape of a regular pentagon, with bastions on all corners.
