Overview
More
The Conception Castle is the best starting point to discover the city and acquire an overview of its 3,000 years of history. Located on the hill of the same name, it has served as the enclave to a Roman temple dedicated to Asclepius, a Muslim fortress, a medieval castle or the place where the siren was installed that warned the population of the bombing during the Civil War. Also, from the fortress, one can obtain the best panoramic views of the city and its natural port. Everything within reach thanks to the panoramic lift that saves walking up the hill.

Easy to find from the cruise terminal. An interesting place with great views and peacocks roaming around. Its quite steep in places so you need to be fairly fit. You can get a reduced ticket price if you do the castle and ampitheatre which was...More

Not to be missed. Great views from the top of the entire city and harbour. Good audiovisual films in different locations. Good lift up, easy to walk down by steps and ramps. Big enough space to swallow up people and not feel crowded.

We took the elevator to the top and walked around the Castle grounds as we had limited time and were very happy with wandering peacocks in full plumage, excellent views over the city, cool garden shade to avoid the heat. We felt the visit was...More

The museum itself is pretty standard and in all honesty a bit boring but the views from the top truly are amazing. And the grounds around it with the peacocks and the gardens are beautiful just not worth the entry to the museum itself

Last part of the awesome €12 ticket was Conception Castle. Now I like my castles and there isn't much left of this one but the work they have done is very good. Take time to watch the history videos with subtitles and you'll really grasp...More

Great views from up here. The reconstructed and simple castle/fortress is a bit overplayed. A video is given inside in Spanish only. The grounds and vistas from there are well worth the trip. Stairs are a bit tough but on the eastern side, there is...More

Combined with a visit to the Civil War shelters and lift to the top made this an enjoyable and interesting morning. There is a fine look-out near the castle offering panoramic views of the town.

The Castle is about 10 minutes walk and then there is a lift from the street up to a stage where there still is a bit of uphill walking to the very top. My Wife has COPD and we walked into the Town centre on fairly flat... More
