Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My twin brother Stephen and I were walking from Plaza De España to Palacio Real and passed Palacio Del Senado and what a great looking building this is.
Palacio Del Senado is home to the Senate Of Spain, the building dates from the 16th century but there were later additions and renovations during the 19th and 20th century, I viewed the curved section of the palace, looked amazing, very photogenic, if you're in the area its well worth checking out and easy to locate along Plaza Marina Española.

Palacio Del Senado is an impressive 16th century building, Unfortunately we were unable to visit the building inside but it looks quite grand from the outside. It has a long history with a number of incarnations, but today it is the building that houses one of the two Houses of the Spanish Parliament, the Senate. Worth a visit.

It can be found in the Plaza de la Marina Espanola, not far from the Royal Palace or the Plaza de Espana Square.
The building began as a convent school in 1590. Its first use as a parliament building was in 1814. In 1987 a new building with its rounded facade was added to the complex.
