Neighbourhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came across this gem by chance. A lovely old church in a quaint old square. We probably could not find it again if we tried. Judging by the number of reviews not many other people have stumbled across this place either. If you do, it is well worth the visit.

Walked by this and searched it on Tripadvisor while we were in the area of the Palace nearby. It was closed when we went there, I think they have restricted times. It's beautiful and the neighbourhood is equally as nice to walk through. The buildings are all old and maintained with the classic orange shingle roofs and the buildings all painted shades of orange. It was very historical.

Iglesia De San Pedro El Viejo is a wonderful church located in the vibrant La Latina neighbourhood which is one of Madrids oldest district's and is an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination.
My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to the fabulous restaurant and bar El Segovia and we chanced on this beautiful church.
The church has a beautiful interior and I was suitably impressed with the ornate features of the church and it's stunning facade looks superb, a bit of googling revealed this church to be a 14th century church built on the site of a mosque, it's stunning tower looks awesome and it makes for some great photographic opportunities and is located in a pretty square .
The church is easy to locate on Calle Nuncio in the La Latino district. Well worth checking out.

Iglesia de San Pedro El Viejo is remarkable not least because of its tall Mudejar tower which is almost completely plain except for horseshoe arched shaped windows at the top. It doesn't really sit comfortably with the overall design of this fine 14th church but certainly adds interest.

Built in early 14th century this small church went through a lot of years and renovations but still keeping the unique character.

Still in use, couldn't get in, was during a wedding, but admired from the exterior. 2 thumbs up!

Classic Catholic Church with lots of ornaments and statues of saints. Plenty of opportunities to make a donation to your favorite Saint.

This lovely old church is a 10 minute stroll from the san pedro boulevard. Its not always open .I think for reasons of security, but sunday mass is at 12 mid day and we've found it open during the morning for people to pop in.
its situatde in a pretty plaza where you can sit and watch the world go buy or have a coffee, tapa, or even a meal.

The Andalusian-influenced Holy Week penitential brotherhoods are incorporating the Sevillian tradition of dressed-up nativity scenes. These consist of life-size sculptures which dress them in clothing setting a nativity scene. The best of all this year has been that of this church.
