This is a rather plain bridge spanning across Rio Manazares River. I saw it on the way to the Grand Palace. For me, it looks rather ordinary.

The Puente del Rey, or the King's Bridge is a bridge that spans the River Manzanares connecting the left bank with the royal palace, which at the time was in the process of being built after the Spanish capital moved to Madrid. It's a fairly shallow arched stone bridge and is quite plain and doesn't really have many interesting decoration apart from the stirrups decoration at the end of the arches just above the water. The bridge does take you out to Parque de Atracciones de Madrid, but don't go out of the way to see the bridge.

A royal bridge

Puente del Rey is a 19th century bridge, originally constructed for the exclusive use of the royals. However over time the bridge was widened and eventually became a public bridge. Today it's a pedestrianised area and it makes crossing the river at that point a joy. The views are not bad either. However it's not a bridge that you must see at any cost. Visit if you are in the vicinity.

King's Bridge - Simple and Beautiful

Puente del Rey or Bridge of the King is located in Rio Madrid and connects the Puerta de San Vincente to Casa Campo. It was earlier meant for the exclusive use of the Royalty as they traveled from the Royal Palace to the Casa Campo which used to be the royal hunting grounds.

The bridge is fairly simple consisting of four arches and is currently closed to traffic. This makes it an ideal place for relaxing watching the Manzanares river flow lazily by. Or take a relaxing walk in Rio Madrid and cross the bridge over to the Casa Campo park.

Definitely worth a visit.

Now it is a privileged place for fireworks and mascletas shows.

What things change. Twenty years ago this bridge was a strategic place for traffic with a constant passage of cars and now it is a privileged place for fireworks and mascot shows. I am impressed by the change in things.
