Some guides will tell you that this is a "counter-cultural" haven frequented by students. There are some students but this is mainly an area for comic book geeks and fans of dungeons and dragons. It should be developed into a Shoreditch/London type area with hip...More

Some people will like, some others not, it depends of what you are looking for. Honestly I loved to discover this area, people from different minds, shops of different products, eating/drinking activities are great when the night falls....

I don't know how it looks in the day but a must-go place for nightlife. Tons of bars out there that won't disappoint you. They have a good mix of locals and tourists. You will end meeting people from different parts of Spain.

We lived nearby and usually had dinner in this area. It is exciting, full of spirit and idea. Not for conservative people. We also found very good shops in this neighbourhood. Calle Fuencarral and Halle Hortaleza are godd and exciting streets with restaurants and shops.

Noisy Madrid neighborhood, ideal for night outing if you don't mind lots of people on the street, usually small dark clubs and not the highest end. But really lively, excellent retro music and very good ambiance. Foreigners, but generally not tourists.

Malasana is the name of an area in Madrid. You will find a series of trendy bars and hip restaurants. Probably one of the coolest neighborhood in Madrid, with young people and nice places.

Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music
venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair,
narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the
center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends
outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents,
and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on
the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as
many other parts of the city, but this only adds to
