A DELIGHT
Oct. 2018 • Couples
I love this cinema. It’s beautiful. Films are shown in their original language, with Spanish subtitles. Tickets are 3 Euros and can only be purchased from the box office just around the side of the entrance (in the alley to the side of the cinema). There are no ads and trailers, films start bang on their advertised time. There is a bar / coffee shop you can use in the cinema before the film starts. The cake was pretty great!

this place should be full

I ve seen a lot of movie there and it's often blasting experiences.
Last time we went to see LOS FURTIVOS. The writer was there and talked about it. Great movie ! Great place !
Beautiful architecture.
A sacred movie temple !
and you can take a beer waiting for the movie.

I just have one suggestion : it should be open sooner, like 11 or 10 o'clock in the morning, as in Paris.

Utterly delightful, idiosyncratic film experience

Tickets are sold either on the day from 16.15 from a little cubicle in the side alley or between 21.30 and the finishing time of the film the night before. Those times are non-negotiable and expect to wait facing a steely eyed mistress of the ticket booth until 16.14 slowly ticks over to 16.15. The tickets are incredibly cheap so films sell out fast with Madrid's cinephile population.
Films with VOSE in the listing are in the original language and are a uniquely quirky collection of older films, foreign language films and other gems.
We saw 'An affair to remember' in English (with Spanish subtitles) and the cinema was packed.
The cinema itself is an old theatre with a lovely Turkish Blue interior. A charming film experience.

A must see

Great historic movie theatre with good selection of classical movies, comfortable seats at only €2.5pp. We saw Harold Lloyd's movies accompanied by live piano. Just loved it. Don't miss it!

great movie place

Great historic place, they offer 4 movies a day, all independent movies with subtitles, for a very cheap price: 2,50 €. Be aware that the selling box is outside just around the corner.
Enjoy the empanadas for only 2 €.
The neighbourhood is kind of spooky but on the whole secure. A metro station is very nearby: Anton Martin.

2.50 euros for a ticket and lots of screenings at this charming and historic venue. A great film-loving crowd made a great cineaste vibe, but you do need to get there early to buy a ticket from the little window round the side, as all screenings I saw sold out. Also in the building is a brilliant film bookshop and a bar/cafe open late into the evening.
Double check that the films are not dubbed in Spanish unless you're pretty fluent!

Return to the Past

The 'Art Deco' façade is so attractive that we could not resist the temptation to go to the movies. Admissions was 2 euros per person. The large projection room retains its original design of the early twentieth's. When lights go slowly off, blue stars illuminate the ceiling. We saw a new Romanian / American film with Vera Farmiga. It was good. Best of all, the cinema atmosphere.

Great place for film lovers
Mar. 2014 • Couples
Good selection of classic films, including of course the very best of Spanish ones. Interesting art nouveau architecture. There is only one but -the film monthly schedule sometimes changes for strange and varied reasons, so make sure the day before that they will put what you intend to see.
