Went for the Music

I went to the PopulArt Jazz Club last February and this July. I've been there 5 times. It's a small venue and it can be tricky getting a seat. I was lucky enough each time to... read more

Went to see some music, most of the tables were reserved when we arrived about 15 mins prior to the gig starting, so you may want to book in advance. Decided to have a drink, 500ml beer was a ridiculous €7. There was an entry fee for the gig besides, so I doubt these absurd prices are for the benefit... More

I went to the PopulArt Jazz Club last February and this July. I've been there 5 times. It's a small venue and it can be tricky getting a seat. I was lucky enough each time to get one. I believe the 3 euro nights are Mon-Thurs. Fri-Sun, the price starts at 10 euros (which includes one drink) and goes up... More

Had a great time at this jazz club. The band playing that night was GREAT and there was such a great vibe in the bar. The service was great and the drinks was good. However, it is a bit expensive compared to other bars in Madrid.

Central bar up the road was full so ended up here. Much cheaper to get in. €3 versus €18 in central. Food not worth it, but music and fun well worth it

This venue is just down the road from Cafe Central, another great jazz venue in Madrid. The evening we went, a group called The Lady and the Tramps played from ten pm till midnight . It was a traditional quartet lineup with piano, drums, base and saxophone, and a singer Monica Benito. This was a free concert, and strangely, the... More

I would not say that paying 4.5 euros for each bottle of water standing up by the bar without live music was such a big deal. The money was not an issue. We are used to paying that and even more in some of our countries' cities and we can afford it. It is however here in Madrid just totally... More

We came by to listen to some light jazz music, and that's what we got. Standing in a crowded bar, drinking wine, listening to the music. Fun. It was nice to see how varied the crowd was - from youngster to oldsters, hipsters to geeksters, singles, couples, groups.

An excellent place to listen to some smooth jazz! Because of the FREE entrance it gets packed once the music starts, but we found a spot to sit and enjoy the great music and our very reasonably priced 3.5€ beers! Certainly has an atmosphere and charm to it, and I would not hesitate to go back next time I visit... More

Get there early since it gets crowded fast. Went to see a swing band and their performance was amazing. The drinks were nicely served although the waiter kept pushing us to get more drinks. Would recommend it.

Was recently in Cafe Populart for their new opening and was completely blown away by the new service, food, and drinks - not to mention the music! This is a great place to go when visiting the city or if you just fancy live music regularly. They offer DJs at the weekends and there is a live band literally every... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
