About
On the 14th of February 1972 the Madrid Wax Museum opened its doors. Located on the Paseo de Recoletos, it is at the start of what is known as the "golden mile" of Madrid Museums. 2,000 square metres split over two floors; it has over forty rooms in which the visitor can travel through time. Thanks to the combination of spaces, environments, lights and sounds, each person who is represented takes on a special dimension in time, which allows the visitor to stand before the character who has been recreated in the environment in which they lived... Permanently being updated, it is a Museum which contains representations of the most prominent figures today: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Mariano Rajoy, Andrés Iniesta, Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas, David Villa, Barack Obama, Rafa Nadal, Mario Vargas Llosa, Iker Casillas, Miley Cyrus and Sponge Bob, have been added to an exhibition in which, among hundreds of figures, you can see El Cid, Camilo José Cela, the Catholic Monarchs, Fernando Torres, Yasser Arafat, Antonio Gala and David Bisbal…, most of the contemporary characters have personally inaugurated their sculptures, which wear clothes from their personal wardrobes, for example Montserrat Caballé, Rafael Alberti, Zinedine Zidane, Antonio Gala, Lola Flores and Miguel Induraín, Joaquín Rodrigo, Severo Ochoa, Mario Vargas Llosa, Rafa Nadal, Joaquín Cortés, Iker Casillas and King Juan Carlos I. The spectacular sets, made by the best artists, are home to the figures and, combined with the Museum’s other attractions like the “Terror Train”, “Simulator” and “Multivision”, they help ensure that our visitors enjoy hours of fun and discovery. And if that’s the case, we’ve achieved our goal.

I am a huge fan of Madame Tussauds museums and have visited most of them in the U.S. as well as the original museum in London. I realized that this museum was not part of the Mme Tussauds brand but was hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, it was largely disappointing.
The focus of the Madame Tussauds collections, in my view, is an incredibly life-like representation of the protagonists, while Museo de Cera seems to be focused on telling a story and less concerned with the quality of the figures. With the exception of 2-3 figures that were truly life-like, the rest were very clearly, well... wax figures. So the magic wasn't there.

I expected it to be just a vast room filled with wax models.This is split in 4 desperate rooms .A ghost train , simulator,video history of Spain,wax models of famous Spanish men and women.

Generally not over impressed. The simulator - a ride along the Great Wall of China - was ok, the ghost train ride was dated and not remotely "ghostly" and the movie was only in Spainish which wasn't alot of good as we are English !.
The standard of waxworks varied from very good - Leonardo Di Caprio and Woody Allen - to pretty poor. The Beatles, in particuliar, were unrecognisable !
Overall a very underwhelming and average attraction.

I haven't laughed so much in years. I really hope they know the waxworks aren't in the same league as Madame Tussaud's. The Train of Terror was absolutely amazing - the only place the cantina from Star Wars and a Rambo fronted Vietnam war could be used instead of monsters and traditional scary things.

This is, by far, the worst wax museum I ever visited (and I visited quite a few). A Madame Tussauds it is not (and that's putting it mildly).
First of all, the place is small. Very small. You can wrap your entire visit in 20-30 minutes.
The wax figures look absolutely horrible. Not lifelike at all. Furthermore, they don't look very professional, to an extent you'd think some of them were made by creative elementary school kids.
There is a big emphasis on Spanish history, with some sports figures and Hollywood stars.
There's also a pathetic "scary" floor on the second floor.
The ticket also includes a movie about Spain's history (Spanish, no subtitles), a dreadful train ride (3 minutes) and a laughable simulator with graphics dating back to 1996 (seriously???).
The museum has an expensive 17 Euros price tag. Saying it is not worth it is an understatement.
The ticket is free with MadridCard, but seriously – do not waste your precious time on this stuck-in-the-90's excuse of a museum.

I adored it from A to Z with the terror tunnel and the moving horror action train, it is so entertaining. And the status are just like real and there is a diversity of ages and themes.

Enjoyed learning about Spanish and world history with the wax figures at the Madrid museum. Very realistic, well laid out in different rooms. We did the self tour with the earphones in several hours

We took two metros to get to the Wax Museum and it was just inside the Colon Metro stop. We have been to several in other cities and felt that this one was very well laid out. Interesting, a good history lesson and variety of old and new figures. Most were amazingly close to realistic. Loved that we could take pictures and that they had places for one to sit and participate in the picture like one of the figures.

I believe that it wasn't so good as I thought. The ticket was expensive at my opinion. At first we entered into a carriage that was for children, then to the train of terror and after we visited the Museum. Had several figures with celebrities, with persons from the history of Spain and a piece with torture. I was not so happy.

If you have kids, it is a very interesting museum to visit. They had a little train, and a simulator, as well as a movie. The wax characters are perfect. It is a perfect program for a rainy day in Madrid with kids.
