Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You should always go where the locals recommend. So we went to La Lopez in Mercado Anton Martin. The food is excellent, ad is the wine and beer. The staff are really friendly and very welcoming. Would definitely recommend.

It isn't fair to compare this market to Mercado de San Miguel as this one is aimed more for locals. Lots of vendors to supply your kitchen but not enough food stands to make this a destination in my opinion. I didn't expect that some would be closed at dinner time. I wound up eating at another location.

On the market's website, there is a video about how the venue is changing, offering more options for eating and drinking and socializing, something that may need to be done for it to remain current and vibrant, while still maintaining tradition. I think they are succeeding, and I'm glad to see this happening.
The market was close to where I was staying, so I visited twice, but unfortunately---my fault, not the market's---I apparently wasn't there at peak times. Only the stalls selling produce, meats, seafood, cheese, olives, etc., were open. It is much more of a traditional, local market, where people who live in the neighborhood actually buy their food. But as a tourist in a guesthouse, I didn't need to buy these things, I wanted to sample tapas, or have a light meal, and a glass of beer or wine. I know that these items are available (look at all the beautiful pictures!)---the next time, I just have to be there when everything is open. I did, however, buy some wonderfully delicious olives. All the olives in Spain are great, but these were super---my own little tapas later on in my room. They were on small skewers with anchovies, pickled onions, fresh garlic, tiny pieces of salmon. Soooo good, and less expensive than the very touristy and crowded Mercado de San Miguel. I'd love to return to Mercado de Anton Martin and try again!

Wonderful selection of tapas and food items for sale. Good place for lunch or snacks
It is usually crowded and often frequented by pickpockets so mind your backpack and wallet

This market is a good combination of stalls where you can buy products to prepare at home - fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, cheese, bread - and places where you can stop for a drink or a bite to eat. It's not decked out for international tourists, but seems more aimed at people in the neighborhood. I enjoy shopping here, the merchants are pleasant and helpful, the quality of the food is very good, and the prices are reasonable.

Devoid of tourist traps, this is still a local market. Some great stalls. The olive guy is a stand out. But some really good quality food here. We at a quick bit at the Mexican place down stairs and the nachos and guacamole were exceptional.

Loved everything about it. Watched youtube videos prior to visiting. Very local feel unlike San Miguel. Just be aware when shopping. A very nice gentleman at one of the stalls let us taste all the wonderful jamons, sausages and cheeses as we were shopping for our little picnic. I wasnt sure of quantity to buy for the two of us. He told me he would take care of me and he did. The bill was not atrocious at 30 euros. But when we opened everything up we had enough for lunch for 8 people. Could not finish it in 3 seperate sittings. It was all wonderful but we would have had plenty at half the price. We laughed about it and kept saying , yep he sure took care of us.

The first time we visited was mid-morning. It was very quiet with only a few vendors open. We went a day later, on a foodie tour, in the late middle of the day. Vibrant and alive all the venders were there and business was booming. Lots to see, do and taste.

This is a great market with many restaurants all serving great food and fresh options. There are several vegan options and foods from around the world. It was filled with locals and no tourists which makes it very authentic. Worth a visit. There is also a flamenco theatre and school here on the second floor. There are daily shows for which you have to call ahead.
