Spent a great morning being educated about the history of Madrid and Spain. Ed made it really enjoyable and educational. Thank you!

Joaquin, our tour quide, made this pleasant tour even nicer by adding a funny touch to each story. Everything was great and i really appreciate their jobs.

Despite not loving history I managed to learn some facts without them being really dry. Although we were rained on pretty much the whole tour Joaquin happily chatted away without an umbrella. You don't cover much of the city, so this tour is great if you don't want to do much walking. The break in the coffee shop was much... More

Sebastian led a wonderful 3 hour walking tour of Madrid. He presented Madrid's long history in a way that was educational, entertaining, thought-provoking, and memorable. Even if you think you know Madrid, take this tour and you'll be surprised what you learn! Starts in Plaza Mayor and ends at the Palace. There's a stop about 2 hours in for bathrooms,... More

Had two tours in a day. The free walking tour of habsburg part of Madrid was great an the guide Edward was excellent, funy and a native English speaker which was great. The second tour was Majestic Madrid, of the second part of the city, which disappointed. The guide Joachim tried, but he overexplained everything and was confusing and at... More

We just arrived to Madrid to spend a long weekend. We ordered in advance through the internet, the Sandemans free tour as a starter. The tour was guided by Juaquin who demonstrated excellent knowledge in the history of Spain and Madrid in particular. The dry facts were well seasoned with stories and humor. Strongly recommended!

Incredibly insightful, hilarious and interesting walking tour with Ramon! He kept us all on our toes despite the windy cold weather, and was a fantastic speaker. I really enjoyed his introduction to Madrid - he was super helpful with any further questions too!

Edward was a fantastic tour guide. There was no time wasted just planned spots and history to go with the attraction. Considering we had a larger than the original expected group size he did a great job keeping the tour moving in the cold and kept those interested very engaged! Thanks !!!

My guide was Edward Morrow and he was an excellent guide! I highly recommend this tour, it gave the historical context in an accessible and enjoyable way. There were even some demonstrations along the way, with the help of the audience. Edward knew the city and spruced in some humor with all the knowledge he was dropping. Overall, it was... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
