The tour was very entertaining and interesting. The guide was Mari Carmen, who interacts with the people and makes it funnier. The only negative point I would say is that we there are some places in the tour we didn't visit, such as "el Oso y el madroño" . But the rest was perfect, thanks!

I took the free walking tour with Joaquin. It was so awesome! Joaquin was really funny, entertaining, and informative. It's an awesome way for you to get a good review of the city, learn about its history, and it gives you news ideas of places to visit and activities to do. I'm now looking into seeing what's available in Barcelona!

I really enjoyed this tour. In a limited time (about 3 hours) you get a good overview of the history of the city, walk a good deal, see some of the influential buildings, learn about the architecture, and get an idea of attractions that you might want to visit later in your trip. It's a great quick way to get... More

What a great way to see this beautiful city and learn some of its history. Seb brought the history of Madrid to life in an amusing and knowledgeable way. The walk was at an easy pace. This walk also included a break half way for drinks and to use a bathroom if required. I would definitely recommend anyone to talk... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
