This is the royal palace and is a 'copy' of Versailles. I've been to both and I thought this one was more impressive. It is larger and there are many more areas open to the public. The lines can be long so go early.

We went to this Palace the first day we arrived in Madrid and we were so glad we did, because the next day it was packed. So get there early. Beautiful palace and a must on your tour of Madrid.
Worth visiting! We were there just as the sun was setting and the palace looked amazing basked in an orange glow. Good time to visit as it wasn't very crowded.
When we were there ,there was a police parade some on horses others in old uniform, modern vehicles dogs and helicopters flying overhead.Quite a spectacle.
