The area

Neighbourhood: Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We had read about Salmon Guru and decided to visit. We had seen the queues of people waiting to go in the previous night and so decided to go the next day when it opened (3 pm on a Saturday). We were one of the first few in, but it filled up within the hour and there was a long queue of people waiting when we left. Good points: it's a nice bar, comfortable with seating at the bar as well as softer seating. The drinks are nice and service is pretty efficient. But the menu is so frustrating. You are directed to scan a QR code and look at the very fancy, graphics heavy menu there. No problem unless, like us, your connection is really slow. It was only when we asked that we were provided with a printed menu. This felt unnecessarily frustrating. On the whole, we are pleased we visited but would not queue to get in and were not so wowed as to go back.

Our family has been on a quest to have a drink at a world ranked bar when visiting major cities. We decided to go near 4:00 pm when the bar opened since they don’t take reservations. When at capacity, people have to wait outside which could be hard if the weather isn’t ideal.
The 3 of us chose different cocktails from the menu. My daughter and I had cocktails more like tiki versions and liked them but definitely were not memorable. My husband was less impressed with his spicy beverage. Most cocktails were around 12 euros.
Service was a bit slow and not personable.

Lara guided us through our amazing cocktail journey. She was kind and really took time to explain the menu and the different drink options. The drinks are absolutely mind bendingly delicious! The menu is so creative and fun. We wish we lived in Madrid. We would be regulars. ¡¡¡Gracias Lara and Salmon Guru!!!

Fun, cool decor. Good music. Friendly wait staff. Before we'd even ordered they came up and gave us glasses of nicely flavored water and kept them filled the whole time we were there along with a bowl of delicious chips. Crazy, fun drink menu, page after page of original creations. It's like a book. I wish there was one of these in Dallas.

I had the Monster Joe. It was frothy, elegant with a little toasted, homemade marshmallow on the side. My daughter had the Hell Boy. It was a little work of art. I won't spoil the surprise- just order it.

We loved it. Great service and atmosphere. Genuinely creative cocktails entertainingly shaken. The Kilt was perfect and tasted even better as the second disappeared

Cocktail bar in the center of Madrid. Suggestive drinks and things to snack on. I would turn the music down a little.
