I cannot say enough good things about Andres and this tour. I took two tapas tours (Adventerous Appetites and Walks of Spain) because as a single traveller it is a safe, fun way to experience Madrid nightlife in a convivial group setting.
I can recommend both tours highly. They are very different and the pricing is different. Check both tours to compare. In my opinion, Walks of Spain would be my #1 pick. It was the perfect combination of history, local customs, gourmet and different tapas and an introduction to some unique Spanish drinks including vermouth, sherry and FANTASTIC wines. Andres is very relaxed, making it a comfortable and tranquil 3 hours. He took us to atypical bodegas, restaurants and areas. At every stop, a table was waiting for us and the owners were waiting to welcome our group. Andres introduces us to vermout (vermouth) and gave a great background on it's history in Spain. We had the best jamon (free-range, acorn-only feed piggies); Manchego marinated in a different way than any others I have tasted; Sherry to die for when combined with the jamon y queso. The next stop was a polished, yet relaxed, gourmet small, award-winning restaurant. We had beautifully presented and delicious tapas in a sleek, modern atmosphere. We ended the evening at a very nice restaurant, sitting at a fantastic table inside but with open doors at our table in a private, quiet part of the restaurant. It was just the right amount of food to enable us to really taste and appreciate. The wine was amazing and Andres is so knowledgeable. I won't ruin the surprise at the end of dinner, but it involves Spanish dessert wine with a dollop of something wonderful. Euro to Euro, a great evening, amazing value and an introduction to the foodie side of Madrid. FYI...this tour would be enjoyed by older, well-behaved children who are used to dining in restaurants. Non-alcoholic drinks are plentiful. I would have taken my boys on it as they love good food and are experienced travellers (ages 9 and 11).
