Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A mural celebrating love in an original way catches the attention of passers-by on Calle Embajadores. Titled "Run Away" and made by British artist D*Face, the work depicts a man and a woman holding each other in a passionate embrace, as the man's body begins to dissolve.
The embrace, a symbol of union and affection, is made even more intense by the tension created by the dissolution of man. It almost seems that love, despite being a powerful force, is unable to stop time and its inexorable escape.
D*Face, known for his style that mixes comedy, pop art and graffiti, has created a work rich in meaning and suggestion. The bright colors and fluid lines give dynamism to the scene. D*Face's work is not only a tribute to love, but also an invitation to live the present to the fullest and not to take anything for granted. A message that resonates particularly strongly on a day like Valentine's Day, when we focus on the importance of emotional bonds.
The "Run Away" mural is a precious tribute to the city of Madrid. A work of art that not only graces the Lavapiés district, but also offers food for thought and inspiration.

Lavapies is a very vibrant multicultural area of Madrid. We have been to Madrid a few times and have visited this area. There are many good, varied and really interesting cafes, restaurants and bars, as well as other types of establishments which merit a visit. The streets we walked on were mostly narrow but full of life with outdoor seating belonging to cafes and other eateries. Also there are some great attractions not too far away such as some of the best museums, namely the Prado, Reina-Sofia and the Thyssen. And of course there are plenty of plazas to visit.

Lavapies is a great neighbourhood in Madrid that on any holiday I take to this most beautiful of cities we always look forward to visiting.
The barrio encompasses a large area ,its multicultural and diverse, vibrant and lively, packed with pubs, bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture, it's a very cool district, we visited some amazing bars in this area, just visiting Plaza De Lavapies sums up this district, lots of great pubs and bars ,we really enjoyed all our visits to the Lavapies district and when we are back in Madrid next year we will most certainly revisit this district.
Well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

I found Lavapies a very interesting area to walk and explore. Yes it had a bit of an edge compared to other parts of Madrid, and it’s a district where you are likely to see groups of people sitting around doing largely nothing and yes you may actually witness the odd illicit substance deal. However I can see that in large parts of London and importantly at no point did I personally feel threatened or unsafe. It is a very ethnically mixed area with trendy bars and a collection of reasonably priced ethnic restaurants. I didn’t personally try it but by the young crowds using them on this particular Saturday lunchtime I would hazard a guess that you can get a very good curry in Lavapies. I found this a good area to explore, especially as it is a district that is undergoing gentrification and all the challenges that brings. But I did not forget that this is a residential area for people who may not be the most affluent, so as long as you don’t act as a privileged tourist I am sure you will be fine.
Historically Lavapies has been the low rent district and therefore the poorer district of Madrid. Historically a working class neighbourhood, in the 1970s a lot of people were attracted here by the cheap rents and the neighborhood began to get a reputation for being overcrowded. In the 1980s and 1990s it became an area with many squatters. And from the 2000’s it is a district where immigrants have settled in Madrid, such as Indians, Chinese, Senegalese and Middle Easterners, who have all been attracted by the lower rents. This led to an influx of the reasonably priced ethnic restaurants and bars which have brought many hipsters and young people into the neighborhood, which has increased its popularity, started pushing up the rents and led to a general gentrification. Let’s hope the Madrid council get this one right as it’s a difficult balancing act..

Traditional neighborhood of Madrid, which has been taken over by immigrant mafias and is today one of the most degraded, dangerous and unsafe areas of Madrid. I recommend avoiding it

A completely degraded, dirty neighborhood, with an overwhelming feeling of insecurity, and with the appearance of not being in Madrid, nor in Europe, but in a third world place.

Lesser known district of Madrid that is definitely worth visiting. When you go to the Reina Sofia you can walk in a few minutes and you are in a completely different environment where murals and out-of-the-line venues are the masters.

Old neighborhood of traditional Madrid that has been punished by insecurity, they tried to open the car while we were inside and then we couldn't get out because they were arresting an individual.
An experience that must be lived once in a lifetime.

Es un barrio más parecido a un ghetto, donde bandas de extranjeros hacen su ley, y es peligroso para turistas y españoles.
