Amazing view of the city from there. I went there only few minutes because it was very windy and cold. But it deserves a visit, absolutely. I'll come back in summer just to better enjoy the view of Madrid.

The terrace on the top is the best. Very good place to rest, and chill out in the center of Madrid. Also is located in a nice neighborhood, plenty of galleries and litle boutiques

We stumbled on this place very near to out hotel and wondered what it was. It turns out to be a sort of cultural center for the city of Madrid. It's free and you can just wander around. They had some interesting street art decorating some corridors and a little gallery with works by Richard Serra, James Byars, Nam Paik... More

Generally worth the walk down past Atocha, this venue has some great exhibitions and events. The recent Daniel Johnson expo was great and the open roof terrace is lovely in the summer.

Close to the rastro, it is a good choice of tour, since usually they offer interesting contemporary expositions.

This cultural centre houses a wide array of workshops, exhibits, plays etc. the year round and serves as cultural hub for the southern barrios in central Madrid. In the summer they have open-air film screenings (subtitled) at the roof top, which is not to be missed!

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
