- Traveler83485814 contributionsTake the taxiThe cable car was efficient and fast. However I would recommend just ride cable car for the view and experience at the Top of The Rock. Do not buy Nature preserve pass unless you are very fit and have a lot of time. Take a taxi tour where they drive from stop to stop. But do ride cable car at least once. Maybe do taxi trip and then ride cable car up to top. There is not much difference in price.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 October 2023
- HALFEVPACounty Roscommon, Ireland13 contributionsGibraltar HighlightVery interesting place. It was a cable car ride worth taking and we enjoyed strolling around at the summit. We enjoyed meeting the monkeys; thought it was rather pricey to enter the nature reserve; and the staff at Top of the Rock cafe were more or less non-existent!! Didn’t stop us have a great time though!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 November 2023
- avipitiHod Hasharon, Israel3,914 contributionsPretty views, but very slowThe cable car takes you from the cable car parking lot to the cable car top station. The views from the cable car are magnificent, but even in the off-season there's a very long line that takes much too long. The cable cars are too small for the crowds and travel too slow. A modern upgrade is needed urgentlyVisited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2024
- nnmercmanCamberley, United Kingdom14,349 contributionsExpensive but great views from the topDecided on spur of the moment to ride the cable car. Have to say I was surprised at the price (£19 per adult return plus extra to visit nature reserve/tunnels) but there is a £2pp reduction for over 65s. Queue didn’t look too long but then we realised it snaked inside the building and took us ages (must be awfully hot in summer) as there’s only 2 cars operating and they take around 12 pax per car. Takes around 6mins to reach the upper station. You do get really good views but take extreme care of loose bags and food as eagle eyed baboons are looking for easy pickings (have to admit it’s fun watching the snatchers in action from viewing balcony!) There were minicab touts outside the base station and I think it would have been easier and cheaper to use them instead as they also give a guided tour (especially as we were a group of 4 and guess we could have bargained on price)Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 February 2024
- tripaulevansWigan, United Kingdom51 contributionsEasy and straightforwardWe went late morning and bought tickets at the kiosk; £34.50pp one way with access to all the attractions on the Rock (tunnels, caves, castle, skywalk, suspension bridge, nature reserve etc.). You get a wrist band and as you reach the different points of interest you get scanned in, very easy and straightforward. We had a twenty minute wait for the cable car but I imagine it gets far busier in the summer.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 February 2024
- curiousgeorge1052Los Angeles, California46 contributionsTook cable car one way, then walked down, saw all the sightsGoing with the cable car is a good method to see all the sights on Gibraltar, and you don’t mind walking. We took the cable car to the top (nice view). We then started heading toward Skywalk (there is a plaque there highlighting that Mark Hamill was there to open the venue). We then headed to O’Hara Battery (there is a long uphill to get there). Then its approximately 15 minutes downhill to St. Michael’s Cave (there is a seven-minute light show in the cave when we were there). Then it was down to the Windsor Suspension Bridge, then a slight uphill 30-minute walk to Caroline’s Battery (don’t forget to see the memorial to those who died defending Gibraltar). It was then an uphill hike to the Great Siege tunnels (that was my highlight, especially seeing the seven cannon at St. Geroge’s Hall), then onto the World War II tunnels (many more rooms blasted out to create an underground city), and the Moorish Castle before going back into town. Including the walk to//from the Spanish boarder, we walked a little over 10 miles that day. As an alternative, you can take a taxi tour (I’m sure that you can find reviews elsewhere on Trip Advisor). We saw the taxis zoom past us at several of the sights, but it didn’t appear that they went to all the same locations (you definitely cannot get to Windsor suspension bridge via taxi), nor spend as much time lingering. In all, I’m glad that we chose the method we were able to fully appreciate all that Gibraltar had to offer.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 February 2024
- james cKey West, Florida14 contributionsGo for the Rock not the rideThe Cable Car is old and tired as are the buildings at the top and bottom.Going in March we were lucky enough to walk straight on.They cram you in a bit and I doubt the ride is even 6 mins long. The views available at multiple places at the top are better than you get on the cable car- but it does the job of getting you to the top. The ride is expensive but if you combine it with the pass to walk down to the gardens, cave, tunnels etc its a full day out and there is much excellent stuff to see. Need good weather to get the best obvs.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 March 2024
- lindaconway0206East Lothian, United Kingdom12 contributionsGreat viewsThis was a great few hours spent here in Gibraltar. Did not wait long in going up or coming back down. Great views and some monkeys too. Can’t say the same for the restaurant at the top. The problem with places that have no competition around is staff become complacent and sloppy which is what the service was like for me.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 March 2024
- IAN DWigan, United Kingdom26,128 contributionsSaves a steep walkI enjoyed going up the rock on the cable car. It only takes about six minutes and affords great views. When going up I suggest you go to the back as the view is better. I do feel it is probably overpriced for the time you spend on it.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 March 2024
- simon pBedworth, United Kingdom223 contributionsDon’t prebookDon’t prebook- we didn’t and were thankful of that. There is no advantage to pre booking as far as I can see and quite some disadvantage. This is especially pertinent if a cruise ship is in port. Top tip: check the view from your hotel before going to the cable car and if there’s a cruise ship docked, be prepared for a long wait. In the end it’s worth it as you don’t have to walk all the way up (which you could do if you were so minded).Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 April 2024

Purchased advanced skip the line tickets. When we arrived we were told the wait was 45 minutes. After 45 minutes we arrived at the ticket desk and was told it would be another 45 minutes to get up then a 1 hour wait to get back down!
They were still selling tickets on the day and not honoring the pre-paid purchases. Total greed. They really need to allow all those that have pre-paid to go first before accepting more sales.
Was promised a refund but after two weeks it still hasn't matterialised. Do yourselve a favour and take a private tour.

No queue, super quick and great way to reach the top of the rock. The monkeys were ready to greet us as soon as we stepped outside, which was lovely!
Obviously we didn’t believe all the taxi tour salesman who said “there’s hour long queues at the cable cars!” As we passed them in the city centre, but we were surprised that there was absolutely no queue at all. Such a quick process and a cool way to reach the top - if you’re not afraid of heights. The only downside is that the mid-point stop wasn’t open, meaning you can get a bit stuck if you ride to the top then walk along to each attraction down to the middle of the rock and can’t face the steep steps back up to the top.

I agree with previous comments that this attraction is very over priced. Expect to pay £58 for 2 adults to take a cable car to the top and to walk back down visiting the sites en-route. There are plenty of mini-bus/taxis hanging around offering guided tours, and if you could get a good deal this may be a better option. Be very wary of the monkeys though, their tactic is to leap into the back of anyone carrying a rucksack, undo the zip and run off with anything that they can grab. We witnessed a guy lose his glasses case in a matter of seconds, although once the monkey opened the case it tossed the it into the bushes and the owner managed to retrieve them. Great entertainment, but not funny for the victim!

I booked the tickets online and it said there will be free shuttle to the Cable car station - no shuttle to see .... no shuttle there - no shuttle anywhere
so we walked the nearly 4 km from the carpark (spanish side) over.
Because of COV19 and low season it was really quick and we were up within minutes.
Very good view - because of the lack of tourists you appriciate everything more anyway and enjoy it more.
The monkeys were completely relaxed and no danger from them at all.

We did the cable car last year and went early in the morning when it was foggy so didn’t see much. This year we decided to go up at 4pm on a sunny day so the views would be great. Everyone had to wear a mask in the cable car but it was only us and another family in it at that time. I was told by the lady on the bottom that the last entry to nature reserve was 5.45pm and last cable car down was 7.15pm. When we got to the top we walked about to see the monkeys then we entered the nature reserve around 5pm but didnt realise how much of a walk it would be. The sun was boiling hot at this time and not much shade, with some downhill and uphill walking. We managed to arrive at the caves, it was nice and cool in there after being in the blistering heat. After walking the full loop we went to the middle station at 5.55pm to wait for a cable car. We waited until 6.20pm but no cable car went up or down the rock. Nothing was moving. We are not sure why and our only option was to walk all the way down. Not ideal without any water or a lot of shade on the route. It cost £97 for 2 adults and 2 children for the tickets, I may consider a private mini bus tour if we were to do it again.

Fantastic view but you don’t need to pay….
If you reserve a table at the restaurant at the top called Mons Calpe There is no charge for using the cable car. Best of all, the restaurant is lovely and the food is good and fairly reasonable

Although the experience we had was not a humans fault(!) it could have definitely been prevented by a human. My partner and I decided to come here during our last day in Gibraltar however upon walking round to board the cable car there are no lockers or places to store bags or belongings. The staff in the cable car office asked what we had in our bags and we explained there were some sweets and clothes (we only had 1 rucksack between 2 of us). The staff then advised that we didn't take it up with us as the monkeys will want it. I asked whether we would leave it anywhere such as in there office or another location if they had one. We were informed that we couldn't so had no choice but to take it up with us. Upon getting out of the cable car at the top of the rock, I was attacked by 3 monkeys causing significant damage to the nerves and tissue in both hands (this was later confirmed by a UK hospital). The staff who work in the bar and restaurant at the top were lovely and very caring during my injury and fainting episode however they also informed us it was the 3rd that day (it was 2pm). We will attempt to come again on day but very disappointed with the lack of facilties at the bottom where bags can be left. It just seemed like a very pointless comment to make if there was nothing that could be done about it. It was also confirmed by the staff at the top of the rock that had my bag been left in the cable car office as requested, this would not have happened.

Well, since you came all the way down to Gibraltar, it means climbing all the way up to the "The Rock" is absoluteley a must and you cannot miss it! "Gibraltar Cable Car" runs 7 days a week from 9:30 AM to 7:15 PM. Pricey? Yes, but it is worth it. Gibraltar can really be better seen from the top terraces, with astonishing views of "Sierra Nevada" and "Costa del Sol" (to the North), the Mediterranean Sea (to the East) and across the Strait to the Rif Mountains of Northern África (to the South) on clear days. At the "Top of the Rock Café", hot and cold drinks and light snacks are available. Complete meals are also available at the "Mons Calpe Suite Restaurant and Bar". It means you can easily spend the whole day at the top of "The Rock"! One last remark: beware of the tricky "Barbary Monkeys" as soon as you leave the cable car, as they are always hungry and sniffing food in the air at all times. Don't feed them and don't even try to touch them. They are no pets at all. Enjoy!

Having visited many times before I noticed that the price to go on the cable car has increased significantly. This price increase to £18 will provide a financial burden on bigger families. If you want to visit the nature reserve the price was £34 so I decided against this and did the basic journey to the Mons Calpe

Terrible, they deceive tourists...
You spend €23.50 to go up by cable car and you have no right to see the monkeys, you are just confined to a restaurant, if you want to see the monkeys you have to pay another 23 euros to enter the reserve.
It got windy and the cable car closed, the only alternative was to go by bus which we had to wait more than 2 hours in the restaurant (scheme for us to eat), there was no option to go on foot if we didn't have to pay 24 euros as the pedestrian exit was by reservation pay, we were kidnapped for more than 2 hours!
I will never go back and I don't recommend it to anyone.

Haven't been to Gib for over 20 years. Last time I went my nerves were sorely tested by getting from the cable car itself onto solid ground. Not good with heights and non-solid bridges.
Has this part been improved at all? I don't want to get up there and end up a nervous wreck again.
