The cathedral at Santiago de Compostela is awe inspiring and very beautiful. I am not Catholic but went to the Pilgrim mass and was lucky to see the fumeria swing. An amazing sight.

The Cathedral is not so special if you are not there for religious reasons. However, it is possible to join a tour of the Cathedral. Go visit the roof, among other things. It is nice!

A great Cathedral currently undergoing necessary repairs and renovations so you will have to put up with scaffolding and plastic building sheets. Everyone wants to experience the Botafumiero (swinging a big incense burner to get rid of the stink and fleas from the original pilgrims)...More

The Cathedral in Santiago is really stunning. The burial place of St. James is the most atmospheric of all buildings in this lovely City. The pilgrims from the Camino and the travellers throng the ancient place of worship. The architecture and the main altar are...More

It was still under construction when we were there three weeks ago and I believe the construction will continue for a couple more years.

Hi there, You can go to the cathedral's website and click on botafumeiro in left column. It lists days they will use it. Bad news is I just did this and saw Friday nights have been discontinued. If that's true, only the holy... More
