Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a nice area to walk around with a view of the city. There is plenty of grassy areas and trees, statues and plaques. It is a nice place to rest before walking down into Santiago. If you are not walking the Camino, then it is a nice area to walk up to. Pope John Paul II held Mass here.

Coming to the top of Monte do Gozo and seeing the Cathedral in Santiago for the first time after walking for 5 days to get there was a great feeling. The statues of the pilgrims pointing the way to the Cathedral is great and we couldn't help taking a photo doing the same thing. It's all downhill from here (literally not in a bad way) and into Santiago for the last few kilometres of the long trip.

Stopped here en route to Santiago on the camino. The monuments are interesting but I think just taking the time to chill on the mountain side before heading into the old city was the best part of this place.

Arriving at the Mount of Joy was something I looked forward to because the other time I had seen it was 9 years ago, driving by it from airport to Santiago. This time, I was a pilgrim. Construction tape around the monument took a teensy bit away from the initial viewing, but, not enough to curb my Tears of Joy. The weather accommodated our view towards Santiago. Seeing the cathedral spires was exciting, knowing that we would be in Santiago within a couple of hours, in time for a Pilgrims Mass to celebrate our journey.

We stopped at Mount Gozo. Storms were threatening and the monument was roped off with construction tape, so there was not much fun in the monument.

What we did like was the adjacent historic chapel of St. Mark. The little chapel was more impressive than the monument. It appears to be of the medieval period. It may seat twenty five people, Max. We were able to go inside and rest a bit.

Be sure to stop by while on the Camino.

This is one of the landmarks experienced at the end of the Camino about 3 miles from the city centre. Interesting piece of sculpture, older church, nice rest stop.

Monte do Gozo (Hill of joy) is the last hill on the Camino de Santiago before reaching Santiago de Compostela. From this hill the pilgrims can see the three spires of the cathedral for the first time. On top of the hill there is a modern religious sculpture and a park, but the place is not that impresive.

Based on TA reviews which mentioned the lovely views of Santiago de Compostela, my family and I walked here from the town center. It was a beautiful, clear day, and we thought our trek would be amply rewarded. First, it's a good 3-4 miles from the town center, not the 20-30 minute walk we'd been told -- but that was no problem, as we like to walk. The journey covered parts of the outer town, and it was refreshing to be able to order 3 cappuccini and pay 3 euros + as the entire bill. Second, however, once we got to the park,it looked like a bunker settlement from a communist nation. It was deserted, signage was poor, and we couldn't imagine why anyone would choose to stay in the stark, barrack-like structures.Still, however, we continued to the top and the monument, which was underwhelming itself. Even more disappointing, the views were nothing special: the town center was too far away. If you happen to be passing this ANYWAY, then stop here; otherwise, we would advise skipping it. What a shame.

It means a lot if you have walked the Camino, and has some great views over Santiago de Compostela, but the murals and sculpture seemed all a bit tatty and tired to me. Needs a good clean up and some rejuvenation.
