If you go to Santiago, it is essential to visit this food market, very close to its famous cathedral. Apart from the place, which in itself is worth seeing, it has a wide variety of stalls with local products from the land. There are also areas set up to buy products and they will cook it for you right there for a fee. Also very pleasant treatment. We will return for sure!!

Extensive fresh food market with 8 food corridors/buildings. Food displayed is obviously very fresh. One of the corridors is dedicated to sit down lunch crowd. Food at the tables in the sit down area is very good and comes out very fast - very reasonable prices. Also, there are many high quality restaurants within a few blocks of the market.

Just a few minute's walk from the Cathedral, the Mercado de Abastos is Santiago's food market and it's version of Barcelona's La Boqueria Market. Here, you can find colorful displays of typical grocery items, from fish, vegetables, and meats (raw and cured), to homemade cheeses, wines, liquor, and arts and crafts.
We visited during carnival season, so all cuts and parts of pork were in display, including the head, as this is the season for "laconada," a typical Galician dish consisting of potatoes, turnip greens, chorizo, and pork, including bacon and often the pork's ear.
I've heard that you can buy percebes (gooseneck barnacles) or other seafood and take it to a stand where they will cook it so you can eat it right away, but we did not have the time to try it.

We went to eat at the Abastos market, and by one it was all full, but a gentleman from ship five gave us Reservation for both. Where we ate, ship five, included four restaurants over there. We order barnacles, cockles, volandeiras, octopus from Feria and many more things. Value for money amazing.
