Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The streets are beautiful and impressive to walk around. We went about 9 am on a Sunday in September and it was completely empty so we could soak in the atmosphere. A couple of hours later and it was awful, full of people. In hindsight a visit to the Jewish museum beforehand would have helped interpret the space or a guided tour.

Like many old Medieval cities in Europe, one is struck by the closeness of the old Jewish ghetto to the main Cathedral of the city. So it is in Girona, where both the old town streets, the narrowness of the ghetto and the old cathedral are elegantly preserved.
We took the high-speed AVE train from Barcelona - 37 minutes at 125 miles per hour. (Useful tip is to book AVANT class, saving about 40% from regular AVE fares).
Really beautiful city - great day trip from Barcelona. We walked the streets of the old Jewish ghettos, ate great food, and walked up to the Cathedral for its majestic views overlooking the city.

I stopped by Girona on my way to Figueres (Dali museum) and spent about 3 hours browsing the town. It is filled with narrow cobbled paths and connects to the present and the past. The center of town was only 1o minutes walk from train station. Lots of restaurants and fine cafe bakeries!

The Call is the medieval Jewish quarter of Girona, rediscovered some 30 years ago during urban renewal. Its walls whisper stories from the past, many of them painful--but some of them joyful. Stroll up the covered stair-stepped alleys and imagine life here 500 years ago. Or sit and drink coffee at one of the sidewalk cafes and listen to the echoes....

When I visited the Call, in the old city of Girona, with my family, on July 2011, after reading the jewish history (my history) behind it, I realy felt enchanted from the ancient history ("Siglo de Oro") that were preserved behind these streets. It ended when we opened the door to the yard of the Jewish Museum. It was so offending to see two big Palestinian flags in the front of the museum! What has it to do with the Nahmanide's or the beginning of the Kabbala heritage?! Only ignorant and primitive people could do such a thing! This ended our trip to this attraction with a very bad taste from Girona.
When I'll find the time, I'm going to complain about it to all the appropriate authorities who take care and realy care to preserve the history of this location. Till it is repaired I don't think I'm going to visit Jewish attractions in Spain, and tell about it to anyone who would like to hear.

The Call is a maze of narrow streets and alleyways in the vicinity of the cathedral.
It was the Jewish quarter until the Jews were expelled at the end of the 15th century.
If you are arriving by train, head towards the river, then cross one of the old bridges and walk uphill towards the cathedral. The main streets are narrow with interesting small shops; but to really absorb the atmosphere, wear trainers and just wander around the steep steps of the maze of alleyways.

We visited during the patronal festival in October so many of the small businesses were either closed for the festivities or open at different times. However, this didn't spoil the experience. The are is clean and unspoilt by tourists. The streets twist and turn and little bars and cafes seem to emerge.
Strong shoes are a must... and be prepared to climb lots of steps in the area to get the full experience

After visiting the Cathedral of Girona we visited the Old Jewish Quarter. Wandering on old and narrow cobbled streets is like you turn back in time
. It is a bit steep going up and down but take it easy and enjoy a place full of character and history. Is it full with restaurants and little bars. Highly recommended

The Call is an atmospheric area of the former Jewish Quarter of the Old Town. The area is fascinating with narrow cobbled paths and alleyways many of which are steep and intriguing and one can be easily be transported to another era in time whilst wandering around. The city is packed with attractions and El Call is a must see whilst in Girona.

Walking through the Call in Girona is like wandering through a medieval theme park - only it's not... it's real! Narrow winding cobbled streets, ancient buildings and history bubbling out of every stone. Go for a wander and get lost in this fascinating part of Girona.

We will have at least one stroller with us. Is there a way to move around the neighborhood without having to take steps? My husband and I would love to visit, but we are worried about having our stroller!

I will be travelling to Girona solo and want to know if the city is safe or are there areas that I should avoid?
Written 18 July 2018
I traveled to Girona alone and there was no problems with safety at all. You can walk around the town within 20 mins and be perfectly safe. I did have a few late nights drinking etc and had no issues with fights or violence or robbery. It is one of the safest cities in my opinion, much safer than Barcelona, but as always when traveling always be aware of your surroundings. If you are going to Girona from Barcelona, I suggest you take the fast train from Barcelona station to Girona. If you drive, it will take you about 1 1/2 hours, but via the fast train ($20 euro) it's about 30 mins! Don't stay at the Hilton in Girona (see my review of it), look for something closer to the city center or the Jewish quarter. Places don't stay open too late and the hours for most businesses are 10am -2pm or 3pm and 5pm or 6pm -11pm as it is siesta time in the afternoon.

How is the drive from Barcelona to Girona are their things we should stop and see along the way??
Written 4 September 2017
It's comfortable main roads all the way with pretty small towns and villages, but to be honest Girona is so beautiful and interesting my advice would be don't waste time on the way. Get to Girona early so you can spend as much time as possible exploring.

We plan to visit Girona from Barcelona on Feb 3 arriving in Girona at the train station about 0900-1000. We would like an english speaking guide for a one half day tour of Jewish Girona.

We didn't use a guide person, we went along to the information Centre. They ere very helpful with maps and informations so you and did walks yourself. I am sure you will be able to get a guide though. That is where I would check as soon as I got off the train. Not far from the station.
