The Pont de Pedra means Bridge of Stone, which I guess aptly describes this bridge. It’s basically a triple arch stone bridge and one of the many bridges that span the River Onyar in Girona. The main reason to visit and cross the bridge is for the views of the river which is currently a sorry excuse of a river and for the colourful houses on either side of the riverfront.

Though out of all the briges that span the River Onyar in the old town, this is probably the least photogenic bridge and the least useful for getting those photogenic pictures of the colourful riverfront houses. If you pressed for time and want photos of the houses, use either Pont de les Peixateries Velles or Pont d'en GĂłmez.

We visited Old Town Girona on a beautiful Sunday in November. It is truly a picturesque town and the old wall, the Jewish quarter and side streets make for a nice relaxing visit. Recommendation: don’t go on a Sunday ( shops are closed) and take the fast train unless you have lots of time. The slow train is a nice ride, but not very scenic.

Look for the giant carp. There are several pretty bridges along the river. We basked in the sun. Good picture spot,

That day they usually offer local products right there. It's one of the widest bridges of the city (may be less than 30ft)

Pont de Petra, in my opinion, does not deserve the average score of 4.0 - it should be a solid 5.0. The bridge itself might not be covered in gold or other fancy embellishments, however it doesn't need to be. The beauty lies in the walk taken through it - in the surrounding, stunning buildings, typical for the South European architecture, in the crystal clear - at least at the time of my visit was - water, in the distant sound of the whispering trees. I felt as if I was in a classical romance movie.

This served as our first stop on our Girona walking tour. We came from Barcelona by train, by 7mins or so we have arrived here. Great viewpoint and a quick visit to the tourist office adjacent to the bridge to get a map and some instructions on where to hear for the Muralla (city walls!). Then we have started walking towards the city walks by basically moving first to Pujada de Sant Domènec (majestic street, famous GoT scene!) and then further up for majestic city views before walking down towards the cathedral! Highly suggested!

Ok, it's a stone bridge connecting the old Girona with new Girona. The views of the other bridges are wonderful. The tourist information building is about left as you enter the town. On Saturdays they have a small craft and artisan food market right on the bridge as well as an outdoor flower market in the square. You'll pass hundreds of designer clothing stores as well as small upscale independent shops and high end jewelry stores. You are not yet into the medieval town so don't despair !!! Turn left and keep walking !!!

This is the Stone Bridge at the top end of the old town of Girona. From here you can get a good photo looking back down to the Iron Bridge and beyond. Easy to reach the Placa Del Independence on the West side of the bridge, or the old town and city walls on the East side.

The Stone Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Onyar as it passes through the city of Girona that is part of the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. It is a bridge built with stone and without many ornamental elements. It has three lower arches, which rest on two central pillars, with rounded stems. The set is about 65 m long and 10 m wide. The sidewalks are with stone slabs and the pavement with brambles. The railings are also solid stone carved.

The current stone bridge was part of the road from Madrid to France. He was styled by the Spanish State and he was given the name of Isabel II. I replaced the previous bridge of the fourteenth century, which was also of stone and was known as San Francisco. The project, carried out in 1849, is from the German engineer ConstantĂ. The works began in June 1850 under the direction of engineer VĂctor MartĂ. In 1852 the works were paralyzed at the height of the pillars. In 1854 they resumed under the direction of Josep Maria Faquinetto. On June 29, 1856, he was solemnly inaugurated.

This is one of a few bridges crossing the river between old and new town with lovely views along the water.
