The modern fortress appeared on Mount Montjuic in 1640, during the uprising of the Catalans against the Habsburgs. In the middle of the 18th century, the Montjuic fortress was reconstructed according to the design of Juan Martino Kermegno. Between 1779 and 1799, new fortification work was carried out, as a result of which the fortress received a modern look.

Beautiful views in every direction from up here! I wish the story boards out front would tell more about the recent history of this fort, because the canons and guns mounted on it definitely weren’t from the 1500’s, 1600, etc.

The sad and nasty part of this beautiful site is all the terrible graffiti everywhere. How horrible three vandals are permitted to tag everything in the city! It makes beautiful historic items look like crap.

Cool old castle, and interesting to see the cannons. However, the best part were the views from the top of the castle. There are some displays inside the castle which were also interesting. There is food and drinks available for purchase in the castle as well. Clean bathrooms are in the castle as well.

Look at the reviews carefully - many are talking about Barcelona's castle of the same name!

Great ruins to go and wander around in. A steep 40 minute walk from the cathedral. We spent about 45 minutes exploring the ruins. All free so no money needed.

The Montjuic Fort was a stronghold built in Girona, built around 1650. The general layout of the castle was a square enclosure constructed with four bastions, linked with walls 150 meters long on average, so it's quite big. The place is in ruins, but the remaining ramparts and structures give a good idea of the size. Great views of the surrounding area from the fort. It's a huff from Girona, about an hour climb. A nice sightseeing route is to go from the Sant Pere Monastery to the Sant Daniel Monastery then follow the road up to the fort. The fort is visible from below, don't worry about getting lost. Bus 27 also goes up, but it's more scenic by foot, the path goes through a colorful neighborhood.

We took a taxi up to the castle. Couldn’t work out all the cable car options. The castle was our favourite thing to do in Barcelona. Excellent fun for the kids. Lovely views and places for kids to go hide in. Cafe for drinks and light meals. Afterwards we took the walking trails around the castle and then down through the various gardens back to town. So lovely and a positive environment. Unlike most of the tourist areas in town which we did not enjoy in the least.

The castle doesn't have a lot in it however has a lot of history attached to it. For 2 adults, 1 under 30 and 2 children we paid 13 Euros (about £11) so great value and we used an online guide we found for the castle. You can sit and while away the time with views over the sea and city. Well worth a visit.

Here the place is a massive fortification dating from the 17th century. Sited on the crest of the hill of Montjuïc, it offers panoramic views of the city and port, and forms a sharp contrast to the ultra-modern sports halls built nearby for the 1992 Olympic Games. But it is a bit far from the city center.

This time round going to see the amazing castle atop of Catalonia. We got there via the cable car which is €12.50 per adult for the round trip (which we didn't do. So it was €9.50 for a single per adult) it cost us €3 per adult but you have to be under 28 to get that price..weird. the views front he top where amazing. From all angles, you can see the city and the port of Barcelona. Didn't delve too much into the history of the castle not going to lie due to the fact of the views where absolutely stunning. I would recommend that who ever goes to work do to the bottom to get the tour bus back to the city like we did, because we saw a few little gems in which you can see the views from different angles. Also saw a restaurant too and a hotel 😊 amazing ❤

Nice couple of hours for a visit. For a small fee you can tour the castle and see some great views of the city.
