Cooking classes, market tours and customised adventures that will open more...

Cooking classes, market tours and customised adventures that will open more than your eyes to the gastronomic heart of the city that Anthony Bourdain of No Reservations described as “the most exciting place to eat in the Western world.” A fun, relaxed and memorable experience for groups of friends, families or singles, as well as company team building days.Engage all your senses as you tour Barcelona’s best markets including the world-renowned La Boqueria and haggle with the Catalan stallholders for the freshest seasonal vegetables from the fields of Andalucia, the creamiest Spanish cheeses, seafood direct from the Mediterranean, Spain’s famous Jamón Ibérico, oranges from Sevilla, and almonds from the hills of Catalonia. Then learn how to transform these ingredients into delicious modern and traditional Spanish dishes - personally created by your chef. And finally, enjoy the fruits of your hard work over Cava – don't dare call it Spanish champagne, a selection of Spain’s best wines such as Tempranillo, Garancha, Syrah and Mazuelo, and Catalan Vichy - the world’s #1 mineral water. Come on a Barcelona Culinary Adventures and see why Papa Serra called this place home.

Joel organized a private dinner(for 12) for us in our villa near Barcelona as celebration for a friend's 40th birthday. The food was Spanish, yet with his very own inspired touch of fusion, and absolutely delectable! Every dish served came with the chef's personal explanation and excellent paired wine. Our experience was truly personalized with our requests for a photographer... More

Booked for a cooking class but it ended up being so much more. Joel (aka Papa Serra) took us by the hand through his favourite local markets then we went back to his beautiful life apartment for a cooking class followed by lunch with him and his lovely partner. It felt like we had struck gold! Money well-spent and definitely... More

We met Joel at the La Boqueria market where he greeted us with a glass or two of Cava. He expertly lead us around the market, choosing the best ingredients for us to make lunch with. We went back to his lovely apartment and cooked as a group, whilst trying some lovely wines. It was a fab way to spend... More

Stumbled across this when googling for something to do upon a late arrival in Barcelona for a weekend trip. Hadn't tried nor heard about such events before, but me and my wife were thrilled by the idea and even more satisfied with the experience. Joel is a great host and an inspiring chef. Our four course meal followed a pumpkin... More

Some good friends recommended a cooking adventure with "Papa Serra" before I left for Spain and although I am definitely not a foodie, I'm very glad that I took their advice. Joel is an engaging, knowledgeable and warm guide, passionate chef, and all round top guy. Thanks again, Joel - this was without a doubt one of the most unique... More

Joel does not simply teach a lesson, he creates an experience. His knowledge of and passion for food oozes like the flavour in his dishes. There's a real authenticity about the manner in which Papa Serra operates and I recommend incorporating a visit to these cooking classes for anyone in the region.

My experience with EATHWITH specially beside Joel was fantastic. You made us feel at home with your friendliness and family like atmosphere. The food was terrific - you provided a perfect setting with an exceptional meal. Our only regret is that I didn't find something like this in my country - I am confident you would be my #1 choice... Papa Serra showed me many secrets of Barcelona's markets and then transformed them like an alquimist cooking ambrosia. Among all the gastronomic experiences I've tried in this city, Joel's cooking abilities are awesome and were easily incorporated into my own repertoire. I'm happy to have felt that I enjoyed the city and its food like a local!

Fantastic food, spot on atmosphere, and, most importantly, great company! All of the food tied back to a story and was sourced from adventures all around the world. A sincere thanks to Joelfor welcoming me into your city and making my first experience as a foodie such a hit.

Alright, where should i start from? Joel is just an amazing Food Lover. He has this attractive and elegant style in each moment while cooking, or explaining his recipes and stories that you can stay excited during all the time spending with him. I had a really unique and alternative culinary experience with him. Traditional recipes became unique and stylish... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
