We stopped here as we were investigating the Fountain Water/Light show. The building is beautiful. Very open and great views from the top of the steps. The best collection was the amazing frescos that were grafted from various churches in the outskirts of Barcelona. Amazing how they can do it!

Each separate category of this museum, from Romanesque and Gothic all the way to modern requires a visit in its own right. Very informative and well-written audioguide.

the MNAC does not for the most part have world class paintings. but the modern art collection was unusually-well presented.

The Museu is a wonderful place to visit when in the Montjuic area. The art covers many highlights during the history of Catalunya and is exceptionally well organized. We did not have time to see the entire museum, but found it very easy to select (and find) particular exhibits that caught our eye. Sitting on the front steps of the... More

This is a very large museum, and we didn't see all of it, but we spent several hours and really enjoyed it. This museum features Catalan artists from Medieval to Contemporary periods.

Beautiful architecture, impressive landscape, even in the it's a sight to behold. Part of the museum were free. It's a short walk from the subway, with an outdoor escalators. The exhibits that you do have to get a ticket for are inexpensive.

Excellent place to visit after the nightfall/evening. It is one way to see the city from the top. There is also a coffee shop that is open till late. The fountains weren't on the day you went, but judging by a few videos I've sent it is a spectacular sight.

The building itself is spectacular and a must see! However, if you're not an artsy person, I recommend not going inside. Spend your time in a better museum like the Picasso museum!

inside it looks like a good museum space. You will find different exhibitions with old church art, classic art like Goya, Velazquez, El Greco, Zurbaran, Cranach, Dali, Picasso and so many Art Nouveau items like furniture, chandeliers, paintings. The collection is big, we spent about 3 hours. November was perfect month to see it, no queue. BTW the surrounding area... More

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
