Undoubtedly my favorite church in Barcelona, I think it is simply spectacular, I think it is a must visit a gothic-style work of art, located in the district of La Ribera and built between 1329 and 1383. The main façade is framed by the two Octagonal towers (form that will be repeated in the columns of the interior) and the... More

The building is Catalan gothic but the front facade has neo gothic elements because they wanted it to look good. Please look up what these mean as you're gonna see this everywhere :D The church itself is quite nice, the mass was really pleasant. Barcelona FC also has a sigil in one of the back windows (very small), don't miss... More

The most amazing feeling while getting in the place....look up and try to get a sense of the hight of the ceiling... light plays a game though the stained glasses giving you an spectacle of light and a holiness sensation. It is a very quiet peaceful place. This is a must in Barcelona, when you feel tired and drained, get... More

Our guide, Pol, was so helpful, and took us all around the Cathedral and up the roof (125 steps). The church is in beautiful condition, with it's high, lofty ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. There are several restaurants nearby that would make a good lunch stop before the tour...

Very peaceful and worth a visit. My daughter liked the church's shop to buy a few mementos. Various doors to go in and out- careful if you don't know the area.

... you walk through the door! The basilica is incredible. It was free to enter when we arrived. However, I'd have gladly paid the couple of Euros other reviewers have mentioned in previous posts. A large section to the right of the doorway chronicles the history of the church itself, and the area it's situated in. The text is in... More

The history of this building reflects a very human story of trial and triumph. Early settlers hauled building materials from the seashore to the building site to erect a soaring edifice paying tribute to the laboring class and their God. The basilica stubbornly survived numerous threats, including the Spanish Civil War. Take a guided tour to the towers that overlook... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
