Set on a small charming and hidden plazza next to Plazza de Catalunia, this simple romanesque church, one of the oldest in Barcelona, was built in the 12th century by the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. It was remodeled in the following centuries.The cloisters and the chapter house date from the 15th century and are clearly Gothic in style. The interior has a very clear reference to the design of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. But what makes this church very special is its involvment with the homeless. Volunteers distribute more than 200 meals a day to people who lost their jobs during the pandemia, and to homeless people. Tables are set in the cloisters to welcome them every day. In front of the church, there is a moving sculpture of Christ as a homeless sleeping on a bench. It is not easy to find, but walking along the Angel Gate pedestrian street, there is a small passage halfway into the church plaza.

This monastery has historical ties to the order of the Holy Sepulchre, reaching back to the 12th century. The church, designed with a Greek cross plan, retains its Romanesque structure, yet notable Gothic elements such as the roof, dome base, cloister, and chapter room (constructed in the 15th century) contribute to its architectural character. Adjacent to the church, in a small square, stands an ancient marker cross.

We went purposefully to see this delightful church and cloisters because it was listed in an off the beaten track article. It was well worth it. The church is small and costs two euros to visit which is much less expensive than almost anything in Barcelona. It is a tranquil oasis in the midst of the chaos of the outside world. Visit the main chapel and see the many different statues and markings, wander into the cloister which feels like a place time forgot and visit the small chapel off the cloister. This is a very old church (we saw the date 1141 on it somewhere) and is austere with flashes of decoration throughout.

If you are in Barcelona, you HAVE to find this place. Its down an alley (more like a narrow street with shops). It was a GREAT concert in a fabulous setting. We ordered the tickets through www.classitic.com ahead of time and were able to just walk up and enjoy some wonderful music in a wonderful setting. Can't say enough. even the wine was good after.

The music in art de guitara is good. However wep urchased through the internet a ticket for music and dinner. ... They cheated us: after one hour of concert they send you to a near by restaurant . Th einternet deal cost 86?.while the concert is 20? and the restaurant menu 17?. So we paid 200%. Real fall

It is a pity you felt you overpayd for your experience but we want to make you see how this is not true and why we ancourage other people to use this wonderful opportunity to discover a great venue and a great restaurant at a very reasonable price.
First of all, each ticket of the combo “Spanish Gitar Concert & Dinner” costs 59 euros. And that includes all the fees.
Second, the concert ticket regular price is 23 euros.
Third, the menu price you are mentioning includes three courses food only. It doesn´t include beverages (Rioja wine and water and coffee if wanted) and it doesn´t include any possible dish with the supplement (up to 12 euros per dinner). So we are talking about 40 euros worth dinner. We also want to stress that it is not a restaurant for tourists even though it is located in the center of Barcelona, so we are very proud of the idea to introduce this place to people that visit our city. It is usually fully booked unless you have a prior reservation. Tha quality of the food is undoubtful, and the online opinions are as good as they can be.
So if you put all this together, you have a concert that costs 23 euros. A three courses dinner with all the possible supplements and beverages, about 40 euros. Plus the work of the people who organized and promoted it. After all, 59 euros seems a reasonable price.

We attended a candle-lit classical guitar concert one evening in the small chapel off the cloisters. The Friday Rambla crowd was quickly forgptten as we spent an hour in a 900 year old room, followed by wine in the cloister. If you are interested in Barcelona history, certainly Santa Anna is worth a stop.

We were given tickets to the performance by Duo de Guitarra as a silver wedding anniversary present during our week long stay in Barcelona and it was the highlight of our holiday. The soft lighting and small audience (about 70 persons maximum) in the chapter house definitely help create a magical atmosphere, but as soon as the guitarists started playing I felt a shiver down my spine. You feel transported back in time with traditional Spanish guitar at its best. The pieces by Sor, Ibanez and others, and the duo's rendition of 4 movements from Bizet's Carmen were awe inspiring.
Tickets for the performances can be purchased through the Barcelona Tourisme website, and for anyone who has an interest in Spanish guitar, this is not to be missed

We took a stop at Santa Anna Church and it was beautiful and so peaceful. The church is worth a look around but outside the small courtyard is really calm and relaxing. With the sun shining on it, it looked great. Really good visit if you just want 10 minutes away from the tourists.

On Saturdays they have a spanish guitar duo playing in the church. The tickets are 24 Euros and include a glass of wine after the show where you can meet the artists. It was an enjoyable evening.

My husband, my sixteen year old daughter and myself went to a concert here on our first night in Barcelona. We had found the event - The Art of the Spanish Guitar - on the Barcelona Tourism web page and booking on line was quick and easy. The candlelit performance which is held in the 15th century chapterhouse is magical. We saw the Barcelona Duo de Guitarra and their playing was brilliant. Wine is available after the concert, which lasted around an hour , and also the opportunity to meet the artists. A wonderful way to spend our first night in Barcelona and experience a bit of the real Spain.
